HELP urgent advice needed on DDs angel costume please

I am going shopping for some bits for DDs costume and I wanted to cover the wings I have with gold feather from a boa, and attach a boa to the bottom of her dress and around the arms.

I cannot find gold anywhere? So, should I?
a) use white and silver feathers for wings, hem and arms (can find this) and gold tinsel for the halo
b) gold tinsel for the wings hem and arms
c) white/silver feather for wings and gold tinsel for the hem arms and halo

d) white and silver everything including silver for the halo (i think this should be gold though?.

Ideas please....you have half an hour before I have to go!

Its DDs first ever ever christmas play so I want her to look fab!

I think option A as tinsel can sometimes be scratchy if worn for any length of time (thinks back to my time working in retail where wearing tinsel was compulsory). The other options all involve tinsel around the arms of your dd's costume so she may be irritated by it.

come on...quick quick MNers...don't let me down now!!

Oh good cos I did not really want to use tinsel, BUT

will it look good with just white and silver flecks? I think the wings will look great like thits, and the dress is white, but will the hemming look good like this?

Omy goodness this sounds like quite a costume!

Don't overdo the feathers - when you're knee deep in what looks like a pillow fight you'll regret it. And if there are two many, people will come up to you afterwards and say, "Oh yes, your dd was the Holy Chicken, wasn't she?"

Gold tinsel for outline of wings and halo. Or one of those fluffy white boa things.

She will look fab. I'm sure the school will be happy with whatever you do as it is one less thing for them to do

PavlovtheCat · 29/11/2008 11:52

LOL, ok, so shall I just scrap the feathers around the hem and arms, just feathers on the wings, gold outline for wings...and tinsel for halo?

Better?

You are right though {sigh} its easy to go overboard isnt it? The dress is quite perfect, already had it (old bridesmaid dress in ivory) and I guess it feels like I am now not doing much. I thought I should be sewing and cutting and sewing for days! And as I wont be, feels like I am doing it wrong!

But, less is more right?

Bear in mind this may all weigh a ton to a small child.

I would do a stretchy white netting sort of thing for the wings (au revoir net curtains, it's the only way), outline in gold tinsel or fluffy white thing, and make the halo out of wire/pipe cleaners and white fluff/tinsel.

Feathers might be a bit OTT. You have years of costumes ahead of you - pace yourself before you find yourself tagged as She Who Does The Play Costumes which, believe me, is a role to avoid. Unless you are a semi professional costumier.

What are the other angels wearing?

PavlovtheCat · 29/11/2008 12:01

I don't know what the othersd are wearing .

I have wings already from an old one, was just going to stick feathers in it, and yes wire covered in tinsel for halo was my plan.

I am so not creative and I guess this was my 'oh I am going to sooo do this!' rather than go buy one...

How about I buy the feather boa, and use this to outline the wings...

I Do not want to be She Who Does he Play Cotues! I shall never be able to keep up with it! . And she is only 2!

Could feathers make some sneeze or make some want to pick them off? She will look cute enough - I find the simpler the design, the more cute they look. Honestly. What does she like too? Little ones can be quite discerning from an early age!

PavlovtheCat · 30/11/2008 19:31

IN the end I bought some wings and a fluff halo from Sainsburys, and a star wand from Claire's accessories.

I attempted the boa thing and it looked very naff as the wings were too small to hold them well.

So now she looks fab, even if I did not make it myself. I did wind some sparkly shiny flat string stuff around her headband though, just to make it look like I did something.

Next year to be Mother Oh Perfect eh?
