We need ramps, a lift and a stop sign or two, I think. Any one got one for their child that's been a massive success?

Fisher price have two types - we have the older style one, but we bought our nephew the newer one that's taller than it is wide and I think it's better. More slides.

word to the wise though - they can't operate those bloody lifts until they are about 4 - by which time they've wrecked the mechanism by trying to do it unsuccesfully for 2 years!

We got DS a Fisher Price one when he was 2 and he loved it. He is now 7 and we are about to donate it to an orphanage - still in perfect condition.

Wooden ones are nice too. GLTC may have some and they have 20% off till Sunday.

Dont buy the fisher price little people one, breaks very easily and is boring as it doesnt do anytthing lift is not usable for a 2YO andthere is one ramp wahooo

Sycamoretree · 28/11/2008 16:43

agree with Mamadiva - the lift is bollocks for that age. They can't get it to shoot the car out. DS uses it to climb on to pull the DVD's off our sideboard. Grrreat!

That said, he does love putting the men and ladies in the cars and has just started to try and put the petrol thing in the cars.

the elc one for that age range has lasted us for ages. has been stood on sat on etc still going strong.

My FIL bought one for dd2 last christmas and it was the best present she had. She is 2 now and still plays with as do all the ohter children that come round.

It is a Chad Valley one that has a ramp, stop sign, lift and filling station.

neolara · 28/11/2008 17:00

I've just bought the one from Great Little Trading Co for my ds who is nearly two. Sorry, can't do links. It's expensive, but they have a 20% off if you buy before this Sunday and you spend more than £75.

Cocodrillo · 28/11/2008 17:29

Thanks for the recommendations so far.

Do they all tend to be massive?

I know DD2 will love a garage, but our tiny house is already stuffed full of plastic crap.

yup. that fisher price one is shit.

Sycamoretree · 28/11/2008 17:37

They aren't MASSIVE, the FP ones, but for the money, I don't think they FP ones are worth it - though wierdly I only bought ours kids one because I remember so vividly playing with mine when I was a kid - somehow I mastered the lift - obviously much more genius than my own children!

Is the GLT one wood? We bought it on amazon for a bit less a few months ago and it's been a huge success.

micku5 · 28/11/2008 17:48

The chad valley one is not big at all, and fits in the corner of the small toy area, dd2 uses it to stand on so that she can get the dvds down.

Cocodrillo · 28/11/2008 20:18

I do like the look of the GLTC one, but the price is putting me off.

Need to check out Chad Valley.

The wooden one from John Lewis is great, DD got it last year when she was 2 and still loves it now.

it's this one

WowOoo · 28/11/2008 20:27

John Lewis wooden one £40 ish is still well loved here. And still looks brand new.

Wallace · 28/11/2008 20:28

Don't buy the ToysRUs one here It is so flimsy. Doesn't fit together very well. We glued ours ttogether and it still broke

Ramps that go round and round - so the car can go wheeeee! - are best.

Cocodrillo · 28/11/2008 20:40

John Lewis one is sold out

I was recommended this one on mumsnet for DS 3. Looks great, DS & DD love playing with it but it doesn't stand up to being stood on. Would recommend it though!

Cocodrillo · 28/11/2008 21:29

Which one mummyineedyounow? Please, I need to know!

The FP one is ok. Tom had it last xmas when he was 1.8 and mastered the lift ok (he'd only just mastered those pop up toy things when his pals had been doing them for months).

My parents let him have his xmas pressie early and he got the FP spin and crash raceway and he can operate the key thing on it, which was a surprise.

mummyineedyounow · 29/11/2008 06:42

Sorry! heres the link

www.amazon.co.uk/Toy-Van-Painted-Wooden-Garage/dp/B000OY4TF4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys&qid=122794072 0&sr=8-1

Its not as big as some of the plastic ones and actually looks very nice (as far as toy garages go!).

mummyineedyounow · 29/11/2008 06:44

Forgot to say the lift handle is a bit hard to turn though so don't think a 2yo could manage to turn it by themselves.

escape · 29/11/2008 07:11

why hasn't anyone mentioned the larger ELC one! (escape goes looking for receipt....)
