DD is almost 6. I have made several attempts to get her to tell me what she would like Santa to bring, but all I can get out of her is "a key ring with a toy dog" (she has one already). That's fine, but not a lot of help. She does lots of drawing/crafty things and reads a lot, so art materials and books are obvious choices, but she doesn't seem to spend a lot of time actually playing with toys at the moment. I'd love to give her some surprises. What are other people getting their DDs of the same age?

I'm also struggling for ideas (DD is nearly 7). We're likely to go for the usual books/clothes combo. DD has just started gymnastics so we've also promised her a nice leotard.

I think art and craft materials are great - lots of creative, plastic tat-free fun. But if you can't think of things to buy, how about a treat? Tickets for a panto or children's show?

I'll be watching this thread ....

I am looking at Horse riding lessons for DD just turned 7 - when asked she says she wants a surprise - hmmm - likes Arts and crafts so a few bits here too - other than that if the horse thing is not practical I am at a loss too.

Re arts and crafts - she likes making little houses etc out of paper, so I am thinking of an origami set forchildren (Lakeland do one).

I also thought about a puppet theatre and some puppets. She likes writing stories, so she could try acting them out.

But do children really stop playing with toys as young as almost six? It seems a bit sad.
