Does it matter if you don't stuff the turkey?

We are having 9 friends over for a Christmas lunch next weekend. We have split up all the things that need to be bought so everyone chips in. The stuffing will therefore be arriving after the turkey needs to go in the oven. All the faff about rinsing the cavity puts me off too.

It is a prebasted frozen turkey we're having. Will it be all dry and stringy from having an empty hole in it?

I am veggie, so don't eat teh turkey, but both my mother and mil cook the stuffing seperately.

My mum never stuffs hers. Does stuffing separately.

What I don't get about stuffing is this - are you supposed to scoop the stuffing out of the bird once it's cooked? Just seems a bit unattractive, iyswim.

I've been wondering whether to stuff or not to stuff myself.

No

Never stuffed mine (so to speak).

ALWAYS do it separately.

If you're going to stuff it start cooking it now. It'll take forever.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/11/2008 20:55

Is it different if you get a turkey crown? Would you stuff that in some way?

girlandboy · 27/11/2008 20:56

Cover it in bacon to keep it moist.

bung a couple of lemons or oranges in it, i never stuff mine

I love you lot. Thanks. Will do the lemons thing as a token jesture to the cavity.

Food microbiologist here and I would never recommend stuffing a turkey, increases cooking time andcan be dangerous
