What do you buy for a boring bloke that has no discernible interests?

My brother-in-law (officially the most boring person in the universe) is the most difficult person to buy for. He really doesn't seem to have any interests (food, sports, cars, music). He occasionally drinks - but only beer so even a good bottle of port/wine/spirits seems wasted on him. I think I bought him socks last year in an attempt to be ironic (lost on him). Any suggestions?

How much do you want to spend? What about a jumper?(zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

janeite · 25/11/2008 22:24

You say "This year we are only buying for the children in a bid to save both money and the planet" and then you never have to consider the issue again!

notnowbernard · 25/11/2008 22:24

Book token

cheesesarnie · 25/11/2008 22:25

sounds like my dh.no idea

cheesesarnie · 25/11/2008 22:26

oooh a goat .

A charity present? Like a card saying he's bought some mosquito nets or something? Or a set of nice beers? Or a card saying he's bought some beer for needy folks

snowleopard · 25/11/2008 22:31

Wooly scarf, hat and/or gloves.

snowleopard · 25/11/2008 22:32

Woolly gah

Portofino · 25/11/2008 22:33

Amazon voucher? Even the most boring person should find SOMETHING on there.

solidgoldbrass · 25/11/2008 22:38

If he likes beer, why not buy him beer? You can get fancy beers in fancy boxes but TBH a case of Stella or something makes a decent present to someone who likes it.

Or you could buy him one of these of course

smugmarried · 25/11/2008 22:39

What about buying a cinema voucher and wrapping it up with a box of popcorn? At least then he can have a night out on you. There must be some films he likes

janeite · 25/11/2008 22:42

Is he your sister's husband? Could you give them a joint present?

Leslaki · 25/11/2008 22:55

box of biscuits, Boots 'smelly set' or another pair of socks???? Could be his annula Xmas joke in a few years time "Oooh is it socks again from litttlemisstwins then??!!" Sorry - just thinking of really boring presents. Why don't you try and take him outside his 'comfort zone' and buy him some trendy clothes, or even just a T shirt from NEXT? or...a calendar/filofaxy type thing. Or a pen - my dad always hated getting 'good pens' and he is the most non-boring person in the world but vvv difficult to buy for!

moondog · 25/11/2008 22:59

Get hom a cool (and cheap and good quality) t shirt from Threadless.
Who doesn't like a cool t shirt?
There are hundreds.I've found loads of great presents here.

HangingbaublesofBethlehem · 25/11/2008 23:46

waitrose do some really nice beer gift - like nice beer and matching beer glass. i think if that's what he likes then why not?

moondog · 26/11/2008 07:38

God no Baubles.
Buying presents in a supermarket, however posh, is a sign that you have Given Up.

LittleMissTwins · 26/11/2008 21:22

cheers for all the suggestions. Perhaps I'll go down the beer route . He is far too uncool for a cool t shirt. Socks again then!

Get him a gadget, or a toy, the 20 questions ball is good, the big boys always enjoy it, plus he can use it to interact with you all at christmas.

Thankyouandgoodnight · 26/11/2008 22:02

You could get some of those 'snazzy' socks from M&S with the coloured toes and heels. You could become known as 'the sock giver' and the surprise is not quite knowing what colour they are

piscesmoon · 26/11/2008 22:05

I would suggest not buying each other presents but going out for a meal together in January.

Feenie · 26/11/2008 22:07

My bil is like this - I got him the 20 questions thing one year, and he was so impressed he left it behind at my mum's! So he is a twat, aswell as being boring

This is a great site for beer gifts - the mixed packs, and the gift packs that come with special glasses. We have had some great Belgian beers, and English regional beer, from them.
