I am letting DS decorate his own in the playroom (with a bit of help from me) so we are going to have our first non-tacky christmas tree

We have:

Tinsel
Lametta
Angel's hair
White static lights
White flashing lights
Baubles
Ribbon
Beads
Bows

you need some of those little chocolates that you hang on the tree and the kids steal everytime they go past. LOVED those as a child!!!!!!!

I'm dreading what our sock/tights/wall/paper eating 9month old puppy is going to do to a 6ft artificial tree!

Just do your tree the way you want it. My SIL buys a whole "thmem" new every year for hers, this year she is apparently doing black and gold. Last year it was white and silver. She throws the decorations out and buys new one each year,a dn her tree looks like it should be in a shop - preferably Harrods - window.
Mine on the other hand, has white static lights, some tinsel (the dses love it) and a mix of baubles, ceramic decorations, some fabric ones sent by a friend in the USA, etc.
She thinks mine looks awful, I think hers does!!

I think Christmas trees should be 'tacky'-especially for children. Designer ones are very sterile. I go for the wonky angel made by DS when he was 5yrs etc -it is much more personal.

MS - not sure. I couldn't imagine a tree without baubles personally. Have just decorated the tree at work. It had white static lights, red and gold baubles and then we put some gold ribbon on. Took the ribbon off in the end cos it looked a bit overdressed. We all decided it looked better with the minimalistic approach of just lights and baubles.

We bought all our decs etc the first xmas we had together in our own home. Gradually we have ditched the tinsel on it (it annoyed me), and as time goes on we are getting more baubles/made stuff etc that mean something to us and not using the mass bought ones so much.

Gimme 10 years and I will have a tree of pure memories, which is how I feel it should be - not style.
