We got a great pudding last year in the jan sales - from sainsbo's. They don't seem to be stocking this brand this year. You can get them on t'internet direct from the company but don't want to pay £4.95 postage. Has anyone seen them for sale in any real life shops/supermarkets?

I think they have these in our sainsbury now... but IIRC you live near Flame, and I am in b h a m so not exactly your area!

The Duchy Originals are the nicest christmas pudding I have ever had though

The Times gave Dutchy a 1 star for their christmas pudding's today.

EachPeach - great minds: was going to say exactly the same thing! The Duchy Originals ones are scrummy.

Duchy came top in the Gruniad last week iirc.

Why do christmas puddings always leave a powder coating in your mouth? Is this normal? It makes me gag!

EachPeachPearMum · 23/11/2008 00:17

well- we can't all have the same tastes.
Janeite- I bought 2 already... just to make sure we actually have one for christmas day- DH scoffs them at the drop of a hat!

janeite · 23/11/2008 00:21

Lol. We were looking lovingly at them in Waitrose this morning but haven't bought one yet. The Carved Angel (iirc) Christmas cakes on the same display looked amazing too.

EachPeachPearMum · 23/11/2008 00:38

Last year they sold out... so don't leave it too long!
I haven't seen the cake, sounds lovely though. I never get cake as my MIL always makes an enormous one, and we have half!
It still lasts about 2 weeks....

The Edmiston Christmas cake is the best I have ever tasted the sort of cake you remember weeks later and start drooling all over again but is mind-blowingly expensive.

thanks, dh very funny about puddings with too many big bits of fruit and won't accept any nuts at all so the matthew walker one was great. I might phone Sainsbo's and see if they have it in the big near here.

Are the duchy ones v. nutty and chunky fruit? these things matter!

Definitely nutty -- Thomasina Miles in the Grauniad describes them as "Boozy, moist with crunchy nuts and a wonderful smell when sliced."
