Can someone recommend a board game?

It's a present for a family - children aged 5, 7 and 10, plus various teenagers and aunties and grandparents.

I have no idea what they already have so don't want to get an obvious one - most people have Monopoly and Triv etc.

Any good ones to recommend?

There is a new DVD version of Pictionary
It's a bit on the pricey side, though.

Cranium is great for all ages and side splittingly funny, I couldn't recommend it enough for a broad age group

pickie · 19/11/2008 21:13

mrsmaidamess · 19/11/2008 21:14

Cranium is good.

We used to love the Great Game of Britain when we were young. In fact, sometimes we still play it.

Why not get a compendium of games?

I got one on amazon for under £12 for christmas like this here

wrinklytum · 19/11/2008 21:25

Oh Squeaver-I am now reliving many childhood Christmasses with mention of Great Game of Britain:O Can you still get it?

IlanaK · 19/11/2008 21:26

If you want something a little bit different that all ages can play, i suggest Mancala. Here is an explanation of what it is. Here is just one place you can buy it. The added bonus is that it looks nice when left out on the coffee table!

My 4 and 7 year old love it and platy it both against each other and against me. I play it with my dh too.

squeaver · 19/11/2008 21:30

I think you can, wrinkly, but it wouldn't be the same without the battered old box held together with sellotape

wrinklytum · 19/11/2008 21:31

You had one of those too? Ours had to be sellotaped in the end,and the cards got a bit dog-eared

wrinklytum · 19/11/2008 21:34

I used to hate getting stuck in John'O'Groats or somewhere in Eire where you had to catch the ferry.

It is such an English game!I mean, the whole premise of it is the crappness of the British transport infrastructure

GreenPenguin · 19/11/2008 21:35

what's that one with plasticine?

TheOtherMaryPoppinsFleckles · 19/11/2008 21:56

rapidough?

misselizabethbennet · 19/11/2008 22:01

Pictureka looks quite good. There's an online version of the game you can play just to try it. I'm Father Christmas is getting it for DS this year.
