Was thinking of buying ds aged 3 a toy castle from santa. Have been reading reviews on ELC castles and they all seem to suggest they need to b sturdier. thought about new playmobil one that can be carried .wondered if anyone could offer some pearls of wisdom!

What's your budget? Don't know about Playmobil - mine are not really into Playmobil stuff and I always get the impression that they come with zillions of tiny pieces and need to be put together beforehand to save tantrums on the day (and that's just from the adults!)

If cod was around you could ask her about the Le Toy Van one - think she got it for her ds last year. We have their dolls house and it's still looking good after 5 years. Usually available from independent toy shops and on the internet...

we have bought a wooden one from a shop called home bargains for £20 and its ace needs extra bits for it but has 4 men with it !!

we brought the playmobil rock castle last year as a joint main christmas pressy. My 2 ds love it and spend many an hour or two fighting dragons and causing delightful havoc...however there are a million pieces..now dh and me had a fantastic time last christmas eve, drinking a bottle of wine, making it, wrapping and hiding it..but it did take us ages..(probably not helped by the copious wine) and I do still spend a lot of time putting it back together..however me and dh both kinda enjoy it..would certainly not be everyone's cup of tea..but a huge hit in our family..xxxx

If I had a 3 year old boy again I'd buy a lovely wooden one - as expensive as I could afford. There are lovely ones out there!

playmobil castle is good..3,5 yr old got it last year and its not as difficult to put together as lego..he could do the knights and lots of the sections were quite big that slotted together...then theres lots of bits that you can add on later.

little brother is getting the pirate ship this year so they can fire cannon balls at each other

try www.john-crane.co.uk a bit more expensive than ELC but much better quality

Thanks 4 taking time to reply . Dd 5 yr old has ELC wooden dolls house and ds loves playing with it so maybe wooden castle would b a good idea. Will investigate Le Toy van. Cheers!
