DD would really like Baby Born for Xmas (she already has Annabel). My head says ok that's what she'd like my heart is screeching nooooooooo!!!!!!

I had a lovely child doll like doll( the Sacha,Gotz type but nowhere near as expensive). Spent hours dressing, brushing her hair etc. Dd will be 4. Do I go with adding to her baby obsession or my preference?

She can't actually dress dolls herself yet so wondering if I should go with Bornand go for the other type next year? But what if I miss the window, and I never get to buy a lovely doll for DD. Do 5/6 year old girls still play with dolls these days?

I should add I have twin boys and dd is my only girl, she isn't allowed to leave childhood without a gorgeous doll for me(I mean her) to dress etc.

Well - my dd is 6 and still plays with her baby dolls! She doesn't really tend to dress them etc but spends hours doing role play. AT 4, I would go with the baby doll. Sorry!

Go with the baby and gt her teh grown up doll next year, she will still play with it ime

Boo hoo!!!!!!! Thanks,am thinking you're both right.

Out of interest Mama G does your 9 year old still play with dolls? I did until much older 12 I think Just wondering if things have changed much these days.

Please reassure me Mama G that isn't this years Xmas cake on your profile already iced,I haven't even made mine yet!!!

My 9 year old likes polly pocket and things like that now and doesn't really play with her "baby" dolls any more - but DS does aged 4

God no, its last year's cake don't worry!!

My Dds have got the my baby doll the one that learns her name - now reduced to £40. I'd highly recommend that one.

Oh and I would go with her desires - it is her present after all!

Has she looked at the more 'grown up' dolls and dismissed them (in which case I would go with her choice), or has she just been assaulted by the Baby Born takeover of all the toy shops?

DD is 3.5- She was given a Baby Born for her 3rd birthday. She already had a Baby Annabelle and to be honest, while she plays with them both she is more interested in dolls with hair she can brush now. I suppose she is moving towards wanting ones who resemble herself.

Gotz do a doll called a Maxi Muffin which is quite 'babyish' in features but has hair you can brush and style and a fairly easy to use range of clothes. Might be a compromise between a baby doll and the more grown up one you want.

www.bambolina.co.uk have a huge range of dolls. Got dd one last year, a corolle baby one (she was then 4.5).

MilaMae · 19/11/2008 22:30

That site is lovely, exactly my dilemma,it pains me to get Baby Born when you see some of those lovely Corolle ones.

Her bday is at Xmas so this is last chance saloon for a gorgeous child like doll with hair until next year.

Somebody reassure me that she'll love a girl dolly with hair next year and will play with the damn thing endlessly. Then I'll do the right thing and get BBorn this year.

dd adores her corelle baby doll www.bambolina.co.uk/products.asp?pk=33 ... but then I got in quick and gave it to her before she registered any of the annabel/baby born monstrosities

Agree with mincepiemadness - could you let her glance over the site and get excited?? (I've just used a similar technique to bend ds's playmobil desires to fit with mine

at you getting in early

My mistake was letting dd watch Milkshake on a Sat morning as a treat-non stop tat fest advertising!!!!

Actually think I will show her the site just to be sure, can't hurt can it.

The lilydolls range by Manhattan Toys are lovely. I got one for my dd when she was 5 and it is still a fave, dd is now nearly 10! Felt hair means no nasty tangles and the clothes are super cute and top quality. There are several dolls with different names eg "Anna" and "Ursula" they are quite hard to get but they had some on offer at Urchin and can find on ebay too. All the young girls we have met have loved them and ended up getting one. There is a clever lady in Germany that even makes replica school uniform for the dolls the same as your own dd's uniform -find on ebay.Happy Christmas!
