Vegan dessert suggestions please - preferably to buy, but I could make one if you have an easy recipe

I'm looking for some lovely delicious vegan dessert ideas please - I'd like to just buy one (have access to most chains of shops, or online), but I'm capable of cooking too if need be. It also has to be reasonably portable, surviving a car journey of up to an hour...

Chocolate or apple ones preferred, but anything considered

TIA

Poached pears with chocolate sauce

Mmm, sounds nice - is it good cold, or would it need reheated? And do you have a vegan chocolate sauce recipe, all mine are full of cream...

Easy peasy chocolate mousse:

1 pack of silken tofu
1 200g bar of good plain chocolate (70% cocoa minimum)
2 frozen bananas
Honey/sugar (optional)
Ground hazelnuts for sprinkling

Cut bananas into chunks and freeze
Melt chocolate in a bowl, bled silken tofu, add melted chocolate and blend again. Add frozen bananas and blend again until smooth and frothy. Sweeten further with honey or sugar if required.

Pour into dessert bowls and put into fridge for at least half an hour. Sprinkle with hazelnuts to serve.

Alternatively, you could skip the bananas and add a few drops of a liqueur for a more adult dessert. Amaretto works well, as does Grand Marnier. If you use Amaretto, sprinkle with crushed amaretti biscuits instead of the hazelnuts.

No, don't put honey in for a vegan! Think of the bees!
Another mousse (Actually it's Gordon Ramsey's one off the cookalong tv show, but adapted):
Get some uht whipping soya cream, think its called soja. It's a white and blue carton and they do it in tescos (note, the whipping cream, not the alpro stuff)

Put in it fridge for an hour. Pour three quarters into bowl for whipping.
whip it! ( it takes a while, makes a bit of a mess, but it does go, use an old fashioned balloon whisk)
Add lemon juice to remaining to make "sour cream". add to that a big bar of melted choc (plain cooking choc or posh lindt stuff)
Fold in whipped cream
Put in fridge for couple of hours.
Lovely!

That sounds yummy too - will it be ok to travel with do you think? I can't do the liqueur, I forgot to add non-alocoholic to the requirements...

I'm not sure about the honey - although I've said vegan for simplicity, it really needs to be kosher parev I'd need to check what honey counts as

crumble (plum / apple.. you choose)
made with marg and oats and flour. Serve with soya custard (or vanilla soya dessert)

Brangelina · 19/11/2008 13:29

Duh, forgot about the honey. Any sweetener will do - sugar, agave syrup etc. If you don't want to use any alcohol you could try grating orange rind or similar.

If you have one of those cooler boxes it should travel. You might have to be careful about potholes though!

Thanks all - they do sound delicious. I'll have to think what's most practical to take with me.

apple pie??

AMumInScotland · 20/11/2008 20:20

I hadn't thought of that - but pastry could be vegan couldn't it. Would manage to live without cream or custard for once....

yep. trex is good for making pastry. make sure to follow the instructions on the packet though because you need less of it than you would other fats

you can get lovely vegan ice cream, called swedish glace. most big supermarkets sell it. or soya cream.
the alpro stuff from the chiller cabinet is much nicer than the long-life stuff

Leslaki · 20/11/2008 20:56

Noticed a real chocolate theme here but thought vegans didn't eat chocolate or am I being dense??

AMumInScotland · 20/11/2008 21:01

Most plain chocolate is ok, as it doesn;t contain milk.
