Christmas Pyjamas

I keep reading about people giving their dc new pyjamas to wear on Christmas eve. I was wondering if you wash them first? Ds gets exzema occasionally but reacts quite badly to new clothes that haven't been washed first. Anyone wash then re-pack for dc to open?

We do this, though not the washing.

There are loads of pjs you can get that are just on a hanger - so you could wash them, re-attach the tag (if that matters) and wrap up. John Lewis, M&S, Mothercare, Matalan all good.

we do new pjs on xmas eve, dont think mine would notice if they were washed or not..more the symbolism of christmas themed pjs

pookamoo · 19/11/2008 12:05

I hadn't heard of this before MN, but I love the idea!
First LO due any day now so a bit young this year but will definitely be introducing this as a new "family tradition".
I would wash them first and wrap in Christmas paper, put them on the bed while the DCs are in the bath on Christmas eve. Sometimes new clothes are a bit scratchy even for people who don't have exzema, and it's nice to have them "smelling of home" too!

MrsBadger · 19/11/2008 12:09

I hadn't either
we used to get new nighties on Christmas morning so we could wear them when we came down for the special treat Christmas supper and Monopoly with our grandparents that night.

I have a red velvet Petit Bateau sleepsuit put away for DD for this year but it is secondhand pre-loved so is soft already

mogs0 · 19/11/2008 12:18

Ok, I'll wash them first (urghhh, then I'll have to iron them to make them look brand new!!).

Pookamoo - I've got new White Co xmas pjs on ebay at the mo (0-3m or 3-6m).

I do this every christmas eve for my dds, i wrap them new pjs together with a new fleece blanket and settle them down with a christmas movie and hot chocolate! Its become tradition in our house and they love it! (ages 9 & 7) I think if you wash and fold them nice and wrap it up your dc will still be over the moon!

Goober · 19/11/2008 13:05

FWIW
Sainsbos have some very cute christmas PJs.

kitbit · 19/11/2008 13:22

My mum used to give me my new pj's on Xmas eve to wear so that I would be all smart on Xmas morning ready for Santa's pressies! She used to let me open them and always put a little stocking-y type pressie inside the packet as well to add to the excitement. Usually a pencil top or new scented rubber, one year (I think the last Santa year so she was making the most of it I think!) she gave me a small eyeshadow.
Think I will do the same for ds this year!

wideratthehips · 19/11/2008 19:33

pookamoo · 19/11/2008 21:09

Thanks Mogs.
I have put them on watching on Ebay although hopefully I will be in labour by the time they finish (I am 1 week over EDD!)
Very cute!

santapaws · 20/11/2008 10:36

Oh. Do they have to xmas pj's? Ive bought DS some brushed cotton Thomas the Tank Engine ones, does that still count?

I would wash first too. Hes only 2.3 so dont think he'll mind that mummy washed them and then wrapped them!

xx

horsemadgal · 20/11/2008 11:02

My son's birthday is beg of December so I get him his Christmas pj's then. Then he's all set for Christmas, though he does wear them all year round I must say

pookamoo · 20/11/2008 18:01

I think they can be any kind of pyjamas.
I heart pyjamas of all kinds, TBH!
So cosy and snuggly!

ChippyMinton · 20/11/2008 18:07

Whenever I've tried this someone's invariably sick or spills something or wets themselves. All our xmas photos feature old or mismatched PJs LOL

So may I recommend two pairs per child or take your photos as soon as the PJs are on?!

cremolafoam · 20/11/2008 18:10

2 pairs of grown up jammies for £25 at la senza

mogs0 · 20/11/2008 19:25

Pookamoo - hope baby comes soon!! Ds was 11 days late, I was getting very impatient!!!

cremolafoam - I love the robin ones!! I almost ordered but I stopped myself because I can't buy anything else, I've gone way over the top this xmas and there's still weeks til the big day!!

My mum always got me new Xmas Eve pyjamas and I grew up loving the tradition. I have adopted it for mine too.

slummymummy36 · 20/11/2009 19:09

We do this!!

My eldest is 11 but every year we have the same routine! Whilst the girls are in the bath the Christmas Fairy sneaks in and pops some neatly wrapped up Xmas PJs/nighty onto their beds!!

They sit in the bath listening for the Christmas Fairy - I dont really think my eldest believes any of this at all but she loves playing along with it!

I have some years washed them before and I dont think they have ever noticed....Does anyones kids notice that kind of thing???

I take some pics of the pristine PJs at bedtime when they are leaving their note, mince pie and tipple for Santa and carrot for the Reindeer!! LOL

The last few years we have had Disney Christmas Nightwear. Usually Minnie and Mickey. Every year the Disney Store (or last time we went to WDW) they have done them. This year they have cut back and are not making "Christmas" PJs!!! Have asked in many stores and been told the same. So now I am on a hunt for some Xmas nightwear for an 8yo and a tall 11yo who prolly needs age 12 or 13 PJs. Does anyone have any suggestions apart from M&S where I can get some Xmas themed PJs?????
