Magazine Subscription for Nan - what would be good?

Need to buy something for DH's Nan - she has no particular special interests or hobbies. Is late 80s. Saga magazine seems aimed at 60 plus intrepid 'oldies'? She is getting frail and stays at home a lot, so I was thinking something chatty and funny to keep her occupied. Any one any ideas? (Don't want Hello type celeb gossip, as she won't know who any of them are...)

Dh's nan (95)enjoys Womans Weekly and Family Circle - WW seems to be the most aimed at that age range

Readers Digest?

How's her eyesight -- would she need something large print?

lucykate · 19/11/2008 11:30

my grandma used to love 'peoples friend'

Thanks for all suggestions - I'll have a search of all these. Had not thought about her eyesight actually - possibly is fading, so this may not be the best idea after all!

Most magazines that are likely to be of interest to the more mature reader do come in large-print editions; you'd just need to contact them and ask and they could probably sort you out.

Yours magazine is ideal. It is aimed specifically at pensioners: lots of 'down memory lane' articles, tips, interviews with very old celebrities (has-beens!) etc.

We are doing 'Good Food', though I think she mainily likes to look at the pictures rather than actually use the recipes

Ooh Good Food is a good idea for my gran...hadn't thought of that. She loves cooking still (at 86) and makes all sorts of fab quite exotic stuff (tagines, thai curry that kind of thing)!

She loves Readers Digest so I'd recommend that too OP.

I get a Good Food subscription from my mil for Xmas each year. I really like it, perhaps she gets it for me so I feed her son properly?!
