Last year the Little White Company had gorgeous embroided christmas stocking but I do not like what they have this year.

Anyone seen any really lovely stockings for sale?

I've bought personalised stockings for both DCs when they were born from this woman on eBay and been very happy.

AllBuggiedOut · 19/11/2008 07:50

Anything here?

AllBuggiedOut · 19/11/2008 07:51

I bought a nice sticking from John Lewis for each of my boys and then got some stick on felt from the fabric department and personalised it myself with the year of birth and their name.

They are really nice and half the price of a bought personalised one.

I got one at my local garden centre - they seem to be branching out into Christmas things all over the place now.

I made a pair of red cotton stockings for my kids when they were 4-5yrs & cut up old scraps of material into snowman ( ex terry towel nappies!) hat, tree and presies - small boxes. All decorated with glitter glue & stuck onto the stocking with PVA glue. they still have them 10 years later even though battered they still love them.
we only used them every other year as the alternate years we spend with other side of the family where all 7 cousins were given a white pillowcase each and spent a day or two before christmas drawing santas & holly etc & writing their names on them with normal felt pens - again they have lasted the next 6 years with no problems & have been added to each year as the kids grew up. The first year some of the younger ones lines were very minimal and mums wrote names in outline to colour in. Years of christmas entertainment

We've got gorgeous ones from Aspen & Brown - red and white and wooly - will have a look...

saltire · 19/11/2008 20:33

Do you know, when DS1 was 1, I bought a stocking in the £1 shop in Elgin. He is now 10 and it's still going strong

funnypeculiar · 19/11/2008 20:34

a few here - we have the wool £8.95 ones

blossomsmine · 19/11/2008 20:57

I bought my kids woollen stockings when they were babies, can't remember where from but they are red, the same size and have a little loop to hang them up. They were not expensive at all a couple of pounds and they are still going strong 19 years later!!

Have just seen this link. In case anyone is interested, I have got a lovely one from mummy made it, via ebay. I think the link is

stores.ebay.co.uk/mummymadeit123

You get a kit that has everything in to make one, and they are really good quality

MyEye · 10/12/2008 19:30

Last year I ordered from this US site. They are lovely and nubbly, with the dcs' names embroidered on them -- but I live in extra fear of moths now.

And I have blanked out how much they cost (think postage was a tenner)

AlderTree · 10/12/2008 20:30

Got DD a fairy one from M&S when they had their first 20% off day. White with a pink fairy on and lined so hopefully it will last.

Nearly had kittens as it was Dh who had been sent to buy his baby daughter her stocking and as we were discussing it on MSN I got a message saying 'there's a nice fairy one in M&S' never thought i would see the day that happened!

As children we had huge knitted ones brilliant for stuffing with strange shapes as they would stretch haven't seen any like that though.

ramonaquimby · 11/12/2008 10:01

could you make one? I've made the dds one out of red fleece, with white on the top, then added their names. I still have the one that mum made for me when I was little - was made of felt, so quite a few holes and tears now. Consider the size - ours are really (too) generous - at the time when I made dd1's , I think I went overboard, and then when I had to make dd2 etc etc I had to make it the same size!

maddylou · 11/12/2008 10:05

same here much appreciated-use red material and felt for pictures, really easy once you work out the shape the first time
