about £ 200 in my case. 1 main present and few small gifts and clothes etc

each!!!!!
When mine were that little they got a few books and a doll.
Even now they are teens they get 50 quid max and dd who is 4 hasn't had a present yet cos she hasn't noticed Xmas. This year she will probably notice it but she has no concept of 'mine' or 'presents'.

Theochris · 18/11/2008 09:40

Well I only have a 2.5 yr old and I doubt more than 30 quid. I realise that this might change as she gets older, but she was overwhelmed on her B-day. She will get pressies from others too. I guess I sound mean, but she really doesn't need much stuff and as long I manage to find one thing she really likes/plays with I'll be happy. It seems so hit and miss sometimes.

I guess if I was buying a bike or something it would be more, but I'm not.

hunnybun1981 · 18/11/2008 09:41

Yes each, i have heard of others spending 400 each.

mine would be happy with a dew books and doll too i am sure

but to be honest wha i do is sell all old toys on ebay etc and put that towards new toys and what i cant sell or what is too big i give to friends/charity shop.

About £200 total this year for my 7 year old and 20 month old. Not split equally though as the little one has lots of toys/books inherited from his big brother and I don't see any point in duplicating toys just for the sake of it. It's not as if the little one has any concept of fairness/value yet anyway, and he's just as happy with a "new" used toy as an expensive boxed one.

If there are big things needed - like a new bike, or skis - I'd be willing to spend a bit more, but we're in the fortunate situation this year of not needing to replace those.

mogs0 · 18/11/2008 09:44

I'm sure I spend far too much but I pick up bits and pieces throughout the year, usually sale items so I'm not really sure how much is being spent. Ds also gets lots of everyday things that he needs (socks, pants, vests etc).

Nemowith3and1tobe · 18/11/2008 09:45

DS is 5 and got him a reduced power rangers megazord and then little bits I have picked up on sale so probably about £40 all in.
DD1 will be 3 and bought her a balance bike from ebay[£20] and some cheap bits so again about £40 and the same on dd2 who will be 2.

compo · 18/11/2008 09:46

4 year old - about £75

2 year old - £30

Lizzylou · 18/11/2008 09:47

Have 2 DS's , 4.9 and 2.9 yrs old, they will prob have abot £75/80 spent on them each.
Mostly stuff I have got during the year when on sale (Playmobil). Lots of books too.

I have ebayed a load of stuff too, to make room for new toys.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 18/11/2008 09:48

we haven't got an amount in mind..

DS1 has specific things that he wants so he is going to get 2 gifts one from Mummy and Daddy and one from his brother. I will get him some stocking fillers
DS2 doesn't have specific things in mind but he too will get a pressie from us and a pressie from his brother & stocking fillers.

we don't have a spend amount.

hunnybun1981 · 18/11/2008 09:49

I love Ebay, have sold lots of toys this year and was trying to list more last night but now have to get verified so have to wait.

I am aiming to sell stuff every month at least from now on as we have soo much clutter, even with a blardy playroom. Am also selling clothes/shoes/handbags as my wardrobe is groaning with stuff I never wear.

hunnybun1981 · 18/11/2008 09:56

i know i need to do such a clear out

as i go off to get some xmas pressies lol

My boys 4 and 2 have about £150 spent on them each but this year its only a couple of toys as they have so many already the rest it bedding sets/towels ect.

DS1 is getting alot fo puzzles as he's loves doing them and they keep him amused for ages!

DS2 is harder all he likes is Birds/dinosaurs and breaking things.

Theochris · 18/11/2008 10:02

That's the thing, it's not just the money, but we live in a little place and I just don't have the room for all the stuff. At least books store small. I try to get rid of as much as I can but with another on the way I feel some pressure to 'save' things. Feeling worried about all the new soft toys that seem to come with new babies!!

Hmm, might go and look on ebay if you lot are selling such nice things

Fiveplusbump · 18/11/2008 10:04

My 5 year old has had around £70.00 spent on her this year ,it would have been a £100 but everything was reduced .
This includes a baby annabell ,the pram and some outfits for her so I think I have done quite well .

hunnybun1981 · 18/11/2008 10:04

the teddies are all lined up on my daughters bed she loves them, we need some shelves to put the other ones on lol

check through some items on here also for sale

what age is ur little one?

Theochris we have mountains of soft toys for my boys, DH goes every time we get another one.

I may Ebay the non-favourite ones (have a stash in a bin bag in the garage!).

I expect we'll get some more at Christmas

Flier · 18/11/2008 10:15

too much! altho i am doing my best to spend alot less than last year

VanillaPumpkin · 18/11/2008 11:28

I have a 5yo and a 3 yo and have a budget of £70 for each including the stocking....
Budget for dh is £70 too .
Stocking has gone over this year as I have included vests and knickers and a pair of PJ's that they need and so I felt unfair that that should come out of their gift budget.

needmorecoffee · 18/11/2008 12:20

my teens get a budget of 50 quid. Thats one computer game and a book. dd 4 will geta book.

sweetkitty · 18/11/2008 12:24

4 1/2 yo and 3yo getting about £120 each but thats everything

Shannaratiger · 18/11/2008 12:32

Thank you for this thread. I can now not feel guilty about aiming for £50 each for DD 5 and DS 2. Unfortunately could spend loads on toys for DS no idea for DD though. She understands about getting presents at Christmas but has no idea on what she wants! Might end up spending a bit more on DS but DD still plays with all DS's toys though.

hunnybun1981 · 18/11/2008 12:37

i think everything is so over exhaterated at christmas

i mean if i had it i could go on and on but whats the point.

£400 for 2 kids 5 and under is a lot of money to anyone.

hopefully i will recoop 200 of that from toys that we have already by selling on ebay.

i have made about 70 so far and the kids havent even noticed that the toys have gone as they didnt play with them anyway.

My dd is 6.5. it does tend to add up, i have bought bits thru the year, say a fiver here and there.
Before you know it you are on £40 before you even think of something special. I think i will have spent about £80. Thats including one special thing at £30, from mummy. The rest is books, colouring stuff, 2 games, new bedding, few other little treats.
