Nothing fishy, as DH and DD have convinced themselves they are allergic .

Usually have soup, but it is quite filling and a bit dull.

What do you lot usually have?

This reminds me of the year my brother took control of the starters - he lay in the living room stuffing himself and then eventually wandered out to the kitchen 2 minutes before we were due to eat. We took our seats and he emerged in his ratty old dressing gown, hair like Wurzel Gummidge, cigarette dangling from his lips and squinting from the smoke. He had a plastic bowl tucked under his arm and proceeded to ladle a spoonful of green slop onto everyone's plate - he had mashed up avocado with prawn and lettuce chunks. It didn't taste that bad but we were all choking it down apart from my mother who naturally was crooning "o, thank you son, this is marvellous" pfb and all that..

sandy, how about blinis to nibble on and posh nuts and crisps - canapes with champagne rather than a sit down starter? You could top them with rare roast beef and horseradish rather than the traditional smoked salmon or caviar.

We don't do starters but we usually have a nice breakfast.
We were talking about what to have for breakfast. dd announced she would like black pudding
