Ok, have agreed to a £5 Christmas - now what on Earth can I get everyone?!

Right, this does not apply to dcs or dh, just everyone else. We have agreed as an extended family to spend a maximum of £5 on everyone. So, now it's getting competitive.

There can be no cheating as proof may be required. The £5 must include things like delivery charges.

My plan is to make some little stockings out of old curtains and fill them with lots of little things. Does anyone have any good website recommendations for cheap but nice gifts?

I need all sorts, things for young men, old ladies, and everything in between (no teenagers, but lots of 2-6 year olds).

All help welcome

Only skimmed posts but has anyone suggested you can cheat with boots 3 for 2? Using that you can buy 3 x £7 presents for £14 so less than £5 per present. You can ask your local boots to order in anything from their christmas gifts on website to avoid delivery charges.

My cunning wheeze for this year is homemade wheat bags. I have cut up some old clothes for the material, and filled them with wheat donated by a farming friend. Alternatively you can buy wheat quite cheaply as pigeon food from pet stores or else use rice. Ideally you want to scent them with a bit of lavender, either cut from the garden or else sprinkle some essential oil on the wheat or rice before you fill the bag. I have done plain rectangle shapes for adults, but I am now trying to do more elaborate ones for children in animal shapes. My children are dead keen to have one for themselves even the plain rectangle shapes.

Oxfam book shops - excellent value hard back books for around £3...leave two pounds for some home baked cookies or some asda bubble bath, which I have to say is rather good and far better value than the body shop.

do you have a £1 store near you??

I am planning on doing a huge jaunt to the £1 store for my DD1's santa sacks. I went there the other week.......they had rimmel london make-up, impulse and charlie body srays, radox bubble baths, cadburys boxes of chocs......loads of named brand stuff, all for £1 per item.

tis fab for decent pressies on the cheap

Primark do lovely fleece or brushed cotton PJs for kids at £3 per pair. Those plus a tube of sweets (3 for £3 I think in Woolies). It would prob work out at £4 to £4.50 per child

Trizelda · 23/11/2008 15:11

'Are you a werewolf?' game for kids 7 - 107. Costs about £3 on the internet. Doesn't look much but the kids that come here beg to play it!

Lush bath bomb, with a face pack and choc bar for mums etc.

Cinema voucher.

Lots of nice toiletries under a fiver in TK Maxx, and some lovely scented candles. A bottle of wine is under a fiver.
Personally - your family may be different - I'd much rather the dcs got one decent book and I got some bath stuff I'd actually use or a candle that smelt nice and dh got a bottle of red (to share with me, of course!) than we got lots of pointless stuff we'd never use or enjoy. I think stuff you can use and then its gone is better than stuff that you are supposed to keep, as my house is full already!

having said that, the little tabletop games from the White COmpany are very sweet for £3 - charades in a box
