Plenty.
Maybe too many.
Biggest challenge is getting boiled veg ready at the smae time.
I'd do carrot and swede mash, put to one side then zap in microwave when ready.

Also braised red cabbage with apple and raisins and bacon which is very forgiving if left on heat for yonks.

Have answered on your other thread too-didn't twig that you were the same person?

Boil and peel carrots and swede. Put carrots into boiling water then 5 mins later, add swede. When soft, drain and then mash-not too smooth. It's nice chunky. Add butter and pepepr and nutmeg. Leavei n serving dish to cool and microwave on the day. It's lovely.

Shred a red cabbage (or maybe half a one. Fry some onions (2) with garlic and chopped up bacon or pancetta. Add cabbage. Move around vigorously then add a handful of raisins, two peeled and sliced apples, slug of red wine vinega and a few tablespoons ob brown sugar. Let it cook on low for an hour. Add a bit of water if too dry.

the carrott and swede mash is really easy... just like mashed potato but you just have to cook it longer i find. once you can prod it with a sharp knife and it slides off it's mash-able!!

potatoes in goose fat are delicious!!! first time I had them was about 2 years ago. remember to par boil the potatoes and then rough them up a bit before putting them in very hot oil in the oven.

if you already know this, then oops!

I think it's too late for sprouts, isn't it? If you don't get them on in September they just won't be overcooked enough by Christmas.

if your doing loads of different veg get a steamer like this one and i think parsnips roasted with maple syrup is quite nice. can you freeze braised red cabbage?

wideratthehips · 17/11/2008 18:26
