stocking for DH?

My DH never had a stocking as a boy, and so when we first lived together before the babies came along, I always used to do him a stocking with little bits and pieces in. Anyway, that idea, like so many others (quality time together? conversations? sex?) fell by the wayside over the years.

This year I have one biggish present for him (one of those things to get music off old cassettes and onto the iPod), but struggling for inspiration for anything else.

Thought I might resurrect the stocking thing, but lacking inspiration. Sweets, obviously, plus I have a DVD of an old film he wanted, plus a bottle of local beer, but does anyone have any creative ideas (suitable for opening in front of children)???

I'm doing one for dh this year, im putting in things like;

Walnut whips (his fav chocolate)

Socks
Boxer shorts

Aftershave

I normally do the things already suggested, but also put in a can of de-icer.

MsBombastic · 16/11/2008 20:20

Book
mug / egg cup
miniature port
little photo frame with pic of kids/self

Fat Face do some nice bits and pieces like hip flask, hand warmers - but quite pricey, although some reduced just before xmas

I'm going to do dp a stocking this year. It will have some Guinness flavoured chocolate (Debenhams); some Dorset Cereals mini boxes; some posh chutney; some Garners pickled shallots; a big bag of nuts; some Duchy Originals cheese biscuits; anti-blister joggers' socks (if I can find them) and probably an Oxfam Unwrapped thing or some fairtrade choc from Oxfam.

...anti blister joggers' socks: may I recommend ASICS Kinsei or Kayano socks, both of which I've bought for DH who hasn't had a blister since, through 3 half marathons. About £8 or £10 a pair.

and thank you all for great suggestions, especially as you've triggered me thinking about a big jar of pickled eggs for him, which oddly, he loves! Off now to check out muckypup's link...

Misshardbroom - thanks for the rec. Do you know where I can get them from? Am in Birmingham, so have access to lots of shops!

nymphadora · 16/11/2008 20:57

UGHHHHHH pickled eggs, my dp loves them & used to eat them in the pub shaken in a packet of plain crisps. But now doesn't do it if he is with me cos I throw up

EachPeachPearMum · 16/11/2008 21:04

surfermum your 'de-icer' made me laugh! Just how cold does it get in your bedroom overnight, that he can't get into his stocking!!!

There's a shop called Birmingham Runner which is meant to be good, plus I think there's branches of Up & Running and Sweatshop in Birmingham although I couldn't say where they are! Or you should be able to get some online.

If only you'd added an extra 's' in the title.

'Stockings for dh' would have taken us into another realm altogether!

misshardbroom · 17/11/2008 11:51

oh if only I had. Could do with the laugh today as well!
