My dds are now both at secondary school and both of them say they want to buy Christmas presents for about 8 friends. Last year we got them each a mug, filled with marshmallows and hot chocolate sachets.

This year we are thinking of buying cheap picture frames and making pictures for each child, matching their interests and the decor of their rooms. I've done some in the dds'rooms already and they do look quite nice.

Does it sound a good idea, or something that you'd think "cheapskate" about?

Lovely idea!

Thank you.

Am trying to avoid the whole "everybody buys each other Boots 3 for 2 stuff" lark, so that we fork out about £50 or so on a load of bath bombs and eyeshadws and they get a load of bathbombs and eyeshadows back - it just seems so daft - and so meaningless.

Any more opinions please?

The pictures have lots of little charms and beads and quotations and things on them too - a bit like scrap booking I suppose; although I've never actually done scrapbooking.

Oh god no.... hey each child something that costs £1.50 tops. The frame idea sounds lovely

lovely idea, my friend's 13 year old got a framed pic of her fave pop star for her birthday and she love love loved it

Sounds a good plan.

Thanks. Moondog - that's the kind of thing I hoped to hear! Although these are more "arty" I suppose, than popstar pics. DD1 seems happier than I am with the first one I've made anyway!
