Thinking of starting a collection for my dd for xmas she is nearly 3 and then on her third birthday 2 weeks after xmas family can buy her things to go with it, she loves all the fantasyland houses from elc and i have thought about the dolls house from elc, but with her bday and xmas so close its along time to get any more presents

will it be suitable, really stuck as i dont know anyone else with girls, or if anyone has a better solution

does anyone actually have the elc dolls house, is it any good?

Hi I got my dd2 the elc dolls house for her second birthday and she loved it, it is still well played with now.
Started collecting sylvanians for my dds the christmas they were 2.5 and 4 yrs. They had the baby nursesry, primrose park and windmill set over that year, birthdays too.Last christmas I got them the house on the hill second hand off ebay, and they loved it way more than the elc house, it has so many little bits and bobs and gorgeous furniture etc !
They now have a caraven too, and are getting the barge this year, plus a few other bits.
I think if your dd likes one set, she will like them all, so start small at her age, otherwise a waste of money !
My neice got into them at 3 and is still getting them for xmas this year at nearly 10! So well worth the money in her case.

do you think shes too young, or is it something you can keep collecting as she gets older, shes seems to be a bit too big for the plastic house thingys from elc

Mine weren't too young for the first sets I got, the nursery and windmill are quite small, and much cheaper. dd2 was 2.5 and played with them as much as her older sister.
I think its one of those things, they will either get into it or not. If you find she plays with them lots then its a lovely thing to build on over the years. DD2 is 6 now and finds time in every day to play with her sylvanian families ! We have to take figures to my sisters so my two girls can play with her two girls. They have a kind of sylvanian world up in the attic !
Also very fun to join in and play with yourself, I find.

I'd stick with happy land as long as possible, SF are so expensive I think.

I'd say she's a bit young tbh - lots of small pieces and things like tails don't take much tugging to come off . The most basic house is about £20 and a good starter. We went through Playmobil first.

My dd is 3.5 and would definitely be bored with Happyland and the like now. So we are getting Sylvanians for Christmas. Start small and add to it like someone said. dd is getting the schoolhouse from us, the hospital and bakery from relatives. If she likes it we can consider the Grand Hotel (it's not for me, honest ) next year.

If you want a standard dolls house with more interesting(i.e. fiddly) furniture I think Le Toy Vans houses are better quality than the ELC one and the accessories more sophisticated. About the same price too, I think . The dolls house emporium do lovely houses but I think their furniture is a bit boring for the price.

DD (3 and 10 months 4 at Xmas) has the ELC wooden house which although she likes to be honest in common with a lot of wooden toys was never fiddly enough.

This Xmas and birthday she's having her 1st Sylvanian Families. We've got her the nursery (as she loves babies)on offer in Woolies, the bakery and a set of dormice to move into the ELC house(going to get my moneys worth out of the bloody thing).

If these are a success we may get more next year or give her the option of more Playmobil which she loves.

To be frank I think wooden dollhouses are often bought for mummy(guilty as charged)I always wanted one as a child. I don't think they are sophisticated enough for a lot of todays kids so be sure that your dd is the wooden toy type. I mix and match with my lot which works a treat. We have the wooden dino world ELC thing which they play for hours with their fiddly Playmobil dinosaurs. They have a wooden farm they never played with until they got some Playmobil farm bits. Now they play with the 2 combined alllll the time.

If it was me doing it again I wouldn't get any more Happyland and would go for the Playmobil house. However if your dd is the wooden toy type go for the ELC wooden house- I think the Sylvanian Families fit so you'll have a home ready for a family of mice next year

We got dd the baby windill and park for her 2nd birthday- SHE LOVES IT!!

We recently added the hospital and will get more for christmas.

It is something they will play with for years (I hope).

DS who is 3 also loves it.

We just take all the very small bits and keep them in a tub until the dc's are a bit older.

VanillaPumpkin · 16/11/2008 18:38

Gosh my dd's are 5 and nearly 3.5 and I was thinking of Sylvanians but was put off as they are still perfectly happy with the Happyland stuff. Not sure what that says about them .

I have found that dMIL was very keen to get things (dolls house, walkie talkies, baby annabel etc) when the dd's were just too young for them. The dd's haven't appreciated the presents (and a lot of things had to be hidden away ie polly pocket for a 3 year old and small bits of dolls house) and lovely wooden furniture got broken. Now dd1 is of an age when she would get pleasure from a lovely wooden dolls house we aren't in a position to buy it for her....

So I think she is too young. What about the ELC fairies and toadstool? The dd's play with that alot and it is plastic so a bit sturdier. Also was bought last year when they were 4 and 2 and so they appreciated it more.

I am hoping to go for Sylvanians for dd1's 6th birthday, if she is interested....
