Personalised/named decorations - NOT bone china - to hang on the tree?

Years ago I saw some little wooden decorations that had names on but can't find them now that I have DCs and know which names to get!

I don't want the bone china baubles (2 boys under 3? i don't think so!) and I would like something that they can hang on the tree themselves as their decoration.

Any ideas?

Oh and Dh has said I can buy a new tree this year! Ours is a wreck after being shipped across the world, having 2 cats climb in/on it & DS1 playing with it last year.
Want a pre-lit one I think.
No real budget, but want to stay sensible as originally promised DH i wouldn't get any new decorations this year...oops the above kind of wipes that out .
Anyway, any tips?

get them to make their own. you can buy blank baubles in a few palces and give them the stuff to decorate them, leaving space on one side for their names and the date to be written in silver marker

why don't you make gingerbread men/people and ice their names on them along with the clothes etc and then tie ribbons around their necks to tie on the tree? that way its a tasty treat as well! wouldn't have to be gingerbread "men" as such, could be trees or houses or santas or whatever. how does that sound?

Hmm, they're both good ideas but not really what i had in mind.
If we do 'making' it'll either be me making them to my 'standards'
or a big mess

and i want something we will keep for the future and they put their decoration on the tree - as a sort of tradition iykwim.

i did find some possibles here

not sure though, will keep looking.

we will probably do the gingerbread too though

If you're anywhere milton keynes a new stall has opened up inside the shopping centre that does 'personalised' chirstmas decorations - all sorts of things, china, wood, clay, things that look like they have been made out of salt dough(?) or that fimo modelling stuff... they personalise it for you there and then - it's a lady with a permanent black (or white, depending on the decoration!) fine marker and nice handwriting, putting whatever you want on them... the ones that were made out of the clay or even the dough (not for eating dough but keeping, others will know better what it is) looked the sort of thing that you could do at home. will keep a look out next time I am out to see if they have a website to give you ideas.

The thing that I thought I would do this year as this year's bauble is to get some photos of ds1 and ds2 wearing santa hat (or other xmas-y attire/props) and try to get some of both face and full body, from both front and back with the aim of printing a matching front and back that I can put together, cut out and laminate so that when it hangs from the tree it looks like a proper little decoration rather just a single side of a photo if you see what I mean. Whilst I want to get them to be pretty much just a ds with no background, I do want to make sure that there is 'Christmas 2008' on them too and if it is too difficult to get the pictures to line up to back on to each other then I will find or draw a simple bauble (or star/snowman/tree/etc) to use as an outline. If they are laminated and you cut around them leaving a reasonable edge, they should stay stuck together.

does that make sense?

I think it will be good fun as ds1 (3.6) loves taking and being in photos so that will take up an afternoon, and then it shouldn't take too long to choose which ones to use and print out, cut out and stick through the laminator - and then cut out again (remembering to leave an extra bit of plastic to make the hole for the string...) And if they turn out well, the grannies will be getting them too.

I figure it will be nice to have in years to come to see how they were, easy to store, something a bit different (I haven;t seen anything like it!) and something easily repeatable in years to come to build up a set.

how sad am I?!
