it says 4+ but ds (3 in may) would love it for xmas. Do you think it would be too old for him or ok?

We have just got one for my teo 3.6 and 27 months so I hope so.

How are you? Pigleto was asking after you on the breastcancer thread

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 13/11/2008 13:21

You may have to take some of the little bits out, fwiw, I thought my ds would love playmobile at that age, but it's only now 4.4 that he is starting to use it.

Playmobile as I recall has loads of little bits that will inevitably end up in your hoover - or his mouth depending how hungry he is

Maybe wait for another year or so

If you do get one, unpack and assemble it before you wrap it up. Remove all the small bits (cannon balls, gold coins etc) and put them away for a couple of years.

dd will be three in April and I wouldn't buy it for her yet as she would just get frustrated with the fiddly bits. We do have some playmobil that belongs to ds (who is 4) but he plays with it when she is not around, so as to keep the noise of dd whinging with frustration down.

I got the pirate galleon for my ds last Christmas when he was 2.11 - there really are an awful lot of little bits. There was constant drama for a while as various little bits got lost/misplaced/hoovered (bet the washing machine innards are full of them) and I had to extract pirate treasure from up his nose on one occasion. Also, those little men don't take kindly to being trodden on. We have a bunch of one-legged pirates (we tried the "oh they just need a wooden leg" tack but he wouldn't buy it).

Its lovely, they played with it a lot but seems to come to pieces even when assembled Nightmare putting it all together. Definitely wrap assembled. Doubloons kept turning up for weeks afterwards. We had one for two six years olds, and we fought bitterly on their birthday trying to follow assembly instructions. For 3 year old think wooden one, like ELC or isnt there one in Letterbox or John Lewis? What about a garage instead? That has been played with NON-STOP for three years.

We got dD some playmobil when she was 3.5 - no issues with her eating small bits, but she did get frustrated as she could not open fiddly things, put the sword into the pirates hand, that sort of thing - so it was quite a parenting intensive toy for a while. ow at 4.5 its perfect, and DS at 2.5 plays with it, but we have the same issue with the fiddly bits.

llareggub · 15/11/2008 23:57

My 2 year old has some playmobil. I did what was suggested earlier and took out the really small stuff. He's never been one for putting things in his mouth though.
