I have told our DD that if she can make a list for Santa but he will only bring her one special present. She only has one item on her list, and it is a pogo stick!! I have tried to suggest that she is too little but she is insistent! Has anyone come across any that are suitable for short three and a half year olds??
Thanks, Sam

No, I haven't seen one for such a little one.

I got my ds (6 at time) one for his Christmas last year, it said 'from 7' and although a year has passed now, he still doesn't have the weight to make it work! I can do it, but tbh it's really dangerous and I'm not a paranoid mum. Likelihood of accident VERY high!!!

Lies in garage,untouched!!!

My DD got one for her 7th? birthday - it was quite hard at first, but she got it with practice.

She doesn't really play with it much - you can't "go" anywhere on it!

would she like a spacehopper instead, or some stilts (the ones like upside down cups)? does she have a trampoline?

(thinking of 'bouncy' things)

or a wobble deck?

Oh, I used to LOVE my pogo stick (although I think I was about 8). I spent about a year solid outside the front of our house jumping up and down, barely coming in for food. I wore out two rubber bungs and you can still see the dents in the tarmac outside their house.
Mind you, it was before Nintendo

In seriousness, I think she might be a bit young. Do they still make those lolo ball things (you know, they have a sort of plastic disc round a ball that you stand on)? They feel very similar to bounce on, surprisingly, and would probably be a better thing to master first.

Bought, never used. DS got scared when trying it for the first time and left it to become bedecked with spider webs in the shed.

How does she know about pogo sticks? Has she ever had a go on one? If there is one she uses at nursery or something you could ask them where they got it? Or maybe you could take her to a toy shop to have a go to check that it lives up to her imaginings?

musicposy · 13/11/2008 17:49

They do take a lot of practice to master at first, probalby more than such a little one would be prepared to put in....
