This is our first year of running a bakery in scotland... any suggestions of scottish favourites with a festive feel gratefully received!

Hmm i can't think of anything My mind is a blank. Will have a think tho.

earlyriser · 09/11/2008 20:56

Black Bun (essential for new year), shortbread, again for first footing at new year, mince pies, oh and Steak pie, for new years day. Traditionally it's much more about new year up here than christmas, although that's changed now.
Basically anything with alcohol in it will go down a treat

expatinscotland · 09/11/2008 20:57

scottish people eat a bunch of crap food.

just rustle something up for anything you've got leftover and they'll buy it.

aGalChangedHerName · 09/11/2008 20:57

doggyandteddy · 09/11/2008 20:57

and wrap it in pastry and deep fry it for good measure

nickytwotimes · 09/11/2008 20:58

expat is right.
Put anything in pastry and we'll gobble it!
Or deep fry it of course.

singyswife · 09/11/2008 21:02

doggyandteddy · 09/11/2008 21:04

cluelessnchaos · 09/11/2008 21:04

predictable but shortbread, there is nothing nicer than good home made shortbread, apart from that fruit breads, do you do home made bread i would buy festive flavoured bread.

gscrym · 09/11/2008 21:05

Got to have tablet, shortbread and dumpling. Like others have said, hogmany is the bigger thing for scottish people.

gscrym · 09/11/2008 21:06

I don't know of that many people who like black bun. Home-made shortbread always goes down a treat. It has to be nice and crumbly.

Scifinerd · 09/11/2008 21:07

bridies and butteries

mince and tatties pie

A cake inscribed "Happy New Year, a skelp in the ear and a glass o ginger beer"

And what exactly is black bun? I read it in the Broons and Oor Wullie every year.

doggyandteddy · 09/11/2008 21:07

thanks gscrym, shortbread at top of the list. Alongside caramel cake, you guys are mad for that stuff!!
