Dh is not convinced at all, I could just about afford it if I do without some other Christmas bits and pieces.

Um, no? Not been, but two grand for 3 days? it would have to be pretty bloody super indeed!

I would spend the cash on a lavish xmas at home...

Not v environmentally fab either.

KatieDD · 09/11/2008 18:41

That is for 5 of us, am thinking it's last chance saloon for us as DD aged 8 had her doubts and it won't take long for the others to be corrupted by her.

Yes, definitely worth it. A truly magical experience.

needmorecoffee · 09/11/2008 19:03

2 grand!!! Do you get to bring Father Xmas home?

wheresthehamster · 09/11/2008 19:09

Yikes!!! What do they do for THAT sort of money???? Or is it the airliner that gets the lion's share and the Laplanders a few crumbs... God I hate commercial crap like this sorry

HRHSaintMamazon · 09/11/2008 19:11

My uncle won a competition to take my cousin to lapland.

she is now a mother herself and still raves about it.

if you can afford it, go.

I took my DD for the one day trip and she has never forgotten it. It cost £500 but it was 14 years ago and she was also 8 then. We did all the activities but the most amazing part was the Huskey ride through the trees in pitch black. We also hired a snowmobile and the headlights against the snow on the ground and trees was beautiful. It looked as if everything had been sprinkled with glitter. The site was a little disappointing till it got dark at 2.15. The fairy lights all came on and the pathways were lit with candles, it looked so Chrismassy. When I smell candle wax now the memories come flooding back. The one day was hectic but worth it. That by the way was our second attempt, the year before we were in the departure lounge waiting to go and the flight was cancelled due to the weather. The second time I managed to keep it a secret until we were on the plane. The air hostesses on the plane got all the children to sing Jingle bells as we were landing which made them so excited. I also wrote special cards to post at Santas post office.

We went last year, its something I have always wanted to do so we waited until dd's were old enough 4 and 5 and then went.

I loved every minute of it, it was really magical, I would love to go again but cant afford it a 2nd time. The dd's loved it, a once in a lifetime trip, we went for 3 days and that was just about right, if I had the money again I would go no problem. I was worried that it would be super commercialised and tacky, and it was the completed opposite, nothing to spend any money on once your there, and its not tacky at all, we went with Cosmos.

This year managed to book 3 days in Eurodisney for just after christams, not had to pay anything because I.m using my Tescos Airmiles that I havent cashed in for ages.

PictureThis · 09/11/2008 21:05

go go go What a magical experience for your children. They won't think about it being environmentally unfriendly or commercialised.
From what others who have experienced have said, it will be something that your children will remember forever, how wonderful

moondog · 09/11/2008 21:06

No
It's horribly naff and common for starters.
What happened to the powers of imagination????

KatieDD · 09/11/2008 21:08

I don't imagine it's that common tbh.
My other concern is that eldest DD is the youngest by far in her class and I don't want the other girls either ruining it before we go by pointing out it's not real or taking the piss out of her for going.

I haven't been but have always thought it would be a lovely thing to do.

However, £2000 for 5 of you for 3 days sounds cheap. The reason I didn't go was because the cheapest I could get it down to was £4000, where have you got your prices from if you don't mind me asking?

ladypinky · 09/11/2008 21:27

Its a once in a lifetime magical experience. We did it last year it was fab. DD will never forget it.Do it and then you won't regret it.Better than wondering what if? IMO

KatieDD · 09/11/2008 21:30

First choice is where I got the quote from, I must say I was pleasantly surprised.

Katie I honestly don't mean to be pedantic but the reason I'm asking is because your offer is so great I'm seriously tempted to book it myself.

Thing is, on the First choice website I'm looking at now I see no 3 day trips to Lapland only 3 nights, is that what you mean? Even so, these come out at nearly £4000 for 2 adults and 3 kids.

peacelily · 09/11/2008 21:41

This is something I would love to do for dd once she's old enough to appreciate it. It sounds and looks fab, I would go.

Not "common" at all. It's a truly memoable once in a lifetime experience for you to share with your dcs, wel worth it go go go!

wheresthehamster · 09/11/2008 22:15

£4000!!

KatieDD · 09/11/2008 22:27

Yes have doubled checked the dates and where you'd be flying from might be different but for 5 of us it's coming in at £2050.

In that case, GO FOR IT. They're only young once, this might be the last year they all believe.

ladypinky · 13/11/2008 21:57

www.santaslapland.com/ Can recommend no hidden extras and private meeting with Santa.
Some companies charge for this and/or its in a dinning room with other families.

BabyTalk13 · 14/11/2008 11:13

I worked in Lapland (esprit holidays) over christmas 2005 as a snow ranger! I say go now otherwise youl miss the chance.
It so magical, there are no words to describe it but AMAZING.
That is a good price for what they squeeze in for you, where I worked (Saariselka)I had the time of my life. Im now a mum and would jump at every chance I could to take my daughter (now 8months) when shes older.
I dont think other children will laugh at her, when I was out there, people of all ages came and went, even hen parties, stag dos and older couples without children and also many teenagers came with there families.
GO FOR IT!!!!!

Have a look on there website, i just had a lil peek for you, they have some great offers....think one of them was 1st and 2nd child aged 2-11years go free but dont qoute me on that!

CountessDracula · 14/11/2008 11:16

No I thought it was shite
Not been with kids though

It was farking freezing, dark a lot, the food beggared belief and it was dull dull dull

The only thing I liked was dog sledding

Snowmobiles are a noisy nightmare and you get a very sore thumb.

The snow is great for skiing but if you are anything other than a total beginner you will have done every run 10 times by lunchtime.

BabyTalk13 · 14/11/2008 11:33

Yes it is very dark as the sun doesnt rise in the winter (or set in the summer) thats why its sooooo cold, can get up to -40 at times but with suitable clothing its fine, they do eat ALOT of soup or reindeer so I just had to stick with the veggie options!! I could imagine its not as good without children but to see there faces is the best thing :-)

CountessDracula · 14/11/2008 11:39

god
reindeer

I felt like I was in a monty python sketch
