DSD has just asked for a dolls pushchair for christmas, she's 9 years old but realy tall (size of a 13 year old), i told her she may be to tall for a dolls pram, is 9 too old for dolls? I thought she was into HSM etc.. so now i'm a bit baffled. Should i try and put her off a dolls pram or just get her one?

Hello Marne my dd is 9 and she has a pram (used to have a buggy but too tall for it now) she has the baby born doll, car seat, clothes etc, she plays with it now and then. She has a friend who has a new baby sister who is only weeks old so her and some other girls took to playing with the dolls more for a while, but now she doesn't look at them as much. She is too embarassed to take it out in the pram down the road incase others see her. It is a shame really she looks cute playing with them I don't mind her doing it the longer they stay kids for the better I say. She was told by one of her other friends she didn't want to play with the dolls as it is babyish! I am struggling to find presents for her this xmas so buying dolls things would be easier for me as she is not into hsm etc. I am not sure about what age they stop,I thought 9 was getting a bit old to play with dolls but I guess not, my dd and ds play mums and dads sometimes and then they use the dolls for that so I haven't put them in the loft just yet. Good luck.

My dd stopped playing with dolls by the age of 9. She is nearly 10.5 and still occassionally plays with Polly Pockets.

My dd is 9 and still plays with her Baby Born dolls, although not as much as in the past. She has a twin doll buggy from Argos which is a bit higher than the normal ones, and takes her dolls to the post box in it fairly often. I am happy for her to play with dolls as long as she likes - they are children for such a short time these days!

Thankyou, i don't mind her playing with dolls but i don't realy want to spend £60 on something that wont get alot of use. She hasn't brought any dolls to our house for a couple years and seemed more intereasted in Bratz and HSM, she also plays on her ds and the pc, i realy thought she had grown out of dolls. Her eldest sister has just had a baby so this could be why she is showing interest.
I played with dolls until i was 10 but was verry tiny (looked younger), dsd looks like a teenager so people might think its odd to see her pushing a pram to the shop.

My 8.5 yo dd1 never played with dolls until the last month, and this last month she's played with baby dolls a lot. (slow developers here, obviously). I think it's cos 4yo dd3 plays with them a lot and dd1 has got into it by playing with her.

I find it really bizarre from a child who always preferred marbles and pebbles and geomag and insects to any sort of doll.

dd2 (just 7) used to play with dolls but doesn't much any more. I guess there's a lot of variation.

I'd get the pushchair if she really wants it, it's nice that they aren't too driven by what's expected for their age group. I'm sure they'll grow out of it soon enough.

We bought a doll's puschair for dd when she was 9 and I have to admit I thought the same - that she wouldn't use it for very long. She did though and still wanted doll things last year when she was 10. She is 11 now and has just started secondary school and this is the first year that she hasn't wanted anything to do with dolls for christmas. I'd get it for her - girls seem to grow up too quickly these days!

My situation same as KM1

Could you pick up a proper pushchair at a second hand baby fair? You coud always sell it on again.

Marne · 10/11/2008 07:51

Thats what i thought clueless, but she said she will look silly with a doll in a full sized pram. I thought maybe i could get her a reborn doll instead of the pushchair as it would be something she would cheresh for a long time.

Could you

a) get a toy pushchair second hand (lots of good quality ones in second hand shops, car boot sales, etc. I agree £60 on something she might grow out of very quickly would be irritating.

b) get some sort of older, maybe vintage or a bit more sophisticated doll + buggy. A sort of collectable.

our nearly 9yo plays with dolls a lot and like yours has asked for yet another dolls buggy for Christmas. if i were you i woudl just get one - check the handle height though
