if you have a DD do you buy her a special dress/party outfit?

Not sure whether to buy DD a dress that may only be worn 2/3 times at the most, or buy her a top, trousers that will.

she would quite like a party dress and its nice to make a special effort.

DS is easy to buy for, he would not appreciate a "posh xmas" outfit and would refuse to wear it so its new top and trackies, and he,ll get loads of wear out of them.

oh what a dilemma!!!

Little Cheese, that's exactly what I did too as a child! Wasn't it great?!
However, things change........particularly when you give birth to a girl. I have 2 DSs and had a DD August just gone and have completely changed my views on childrens' clothing. I simply adore looking for and buying clothes for my girl whereas for the boys its just not the same. I have already bought DD her Christmas day outfit and haven't a clue what the boys will be wearing, or myself for that matter... maybe i'll stick to the jimjams.

last year was dd's 1st christmas so she wore a mary christmas outfit which i thought was extravagent when i bought it but we went to 2 baby xmas parties, out for xmas dinner with my dad and grandparents before xmas, buffet at my dads after xmas xmas day and we took pics of her dressed up for cards. I really think ill let her wear pj's that she gets on xmas eve this year. I cant bear to get her a lovely party dress fopr it to get covered in play dough and crayon and xmas dinner. Also im sure she will be far more comfy in pj's

I have a friend who always gives her children a new pair of pyjamas on Christmas Eve, I think it's a fab idea though not the most exciting present in their minds!
My DD will only be 4 months old at xmas so I don't have to worry about crayons etc. I know 4 months seems a stupidly young age to be worrying about her clothing......its the girl thing. A whole new world. A whole new world in which I am already revelling!

We stay in our pyjamas all day. We open presents, eat, play games, eat some more and watch any decent tv.

We are very unsociable at Christmas and are usually ill.

I realise that sounds rather bah humbug but it's true and the children like it!

Changer22, that sounds pretty much like my xmases as a wee bairn and the ill bit definitely like last year where for 2 whole months which included xmas someone in the family was either spewing or groaning or frying up with a temperature. I can't wait for this year. Truth be told I am a completely xmas freak and get very excited in late august when xmas cards start appearing in the shops. Recently bought Nigella's new xmas book and think in a former life I actually was her....probably minus the big boobs.

PJs all morning, then normal clothes rest of day (someting warm so we can go for a wlk), getting back into PJs by tea time.

We spend Christmas Dat at home just the three of us so it is really relaxed.

Hulababy · 03/11/2008 20:46

New PJs left under tree on Christmas Eve day, ready to wear that night.

we always have new jammies for xmas eve too.they love the fact that they get to open a present before xmas and i love seeing them in their jammies on christmas morning. this year however, my kids have been bought packs of two pairs of jammies so will have new ones on christmas night too. i always try to get them something nice to wear on christmas day- not usually over the top though. last year both ds's had new jeans and nice tops, and the girls had gorgeous little red dresses with white spots which i bought from george at asda- cost me about £18-19 for the both i think. they looked fantastic in their little matching dresses.

LittleCheese · 04/11/2008 10:04

changer22 thats exactly what my christmas's were like right up to me being about 16/17 and i loved them, the one day in the year when it was ok not to get dressed. I have decided that dd will definately stay in her jammies this year. I will get her a nice dress as we go out for dinner to my dads golf club before christmas so she can wear it then, and we have a bit of a family party on boxing day so she can wear it then too.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 04/11/2008 10:07

Pj's all day, as do I.

'Tis a tradition, we do go out for a big walk, but we just put clothes on over the p's,

wontbepreggersagain · 04/11/2008 10:17

pj's here- although the dt's have 'my first christmas' babygroes kindly provided by DM they all get a nice outfit for christmas, but it gets worn on boxing day when we go and visit the outlaws and then again on new years day when we see my lot.

All get new xmas pjs on christmas eve!

DD is a very girly girl and I will buy her a new dress for Christmas. DS usually gets a football shirt for Christmas and so is really desperate to wear that.

I remember that last year DD was really insistent on having a green dress. I managed to get a petrol coloured velvet one from M&S.
