The children are off for almost 4 weeks where we are - and apart from the usual monotomy of life and excitement of Christmas - what will you be doing with them?

I'm debating; swimming, bowling and afternoon tea at a local cafe

Strangely I feel the same but I've got DH (teacher) at home and the Twixmas is a difficult time. I don't get the chores done but we don't do anything really fab. I might look at the Tate Britain Tate Modern website to see if they are doing children's painting. I might go out the the GF's with kids to the South Bank. But other than that I don't know. Interested to see other suggestions

4 weeks? We break up on the 19th of Dec and go back on the 5th. Whats that...just over 2 weeks? Thats rubbish innit?

RomanCandleQueen · 01/11/2008 23:45

A giant tin of Roses.

It takes mine until august to play with all their presents, make up the kits and create all the creative things they get .

jenkel · 02/11/2008 09:46

We also break up on 19th and go back on 6th, a little longer but I would love 4 weeks

Eniddo · 02/11/2008 09:47

absolutely nothing - we will be busy enough seeing friends and staying in our pjs until 11 every day

I don't have to entertain my kids particularly

Will be going out a lot as find it best to get out of the house with ds1's special needs as he finds 'relaxing at home' hard and bounces off the walls quite quickly! So we will be spending our money on outings not presents.

Alton Towers indoor water park Cariba Creek whilst the twins are still free (4 on jan 6!).

Considering Tamworth Snow dome's snow play park as we have had no snow here in Nottingham for years.

We are national trust members so will go and see Father Christmas at Belton House near Grantham and will go to the National Museum of Childhood at Sudbury as they love pretending to be sweeps in the chimney.

Will be going swimming a lot as twins are free and as dh's council gym membership includes entry for kids to their soft play thing we'll be braving that too.

Will be going into town, but not for shopping hell - will be going to get hot nuts at the German market, look at the ice skating in the square and at all the decorations in the shopping centre - will probably go on a tram too as kids think that's mega exciting.

May take twins to theatre on their own as ds1 finds it hard to sit still for long.

Will spend a day buying tree and decorating house.

Local garden centre do nice food and have amazing animatronic snow men and real reindeer so will go there too.

Will have usual play dates and relative visits as well.

Twims, where do you live because on another thread someone suggested Hyde Park had a winter wonderland thing. i'm going to look into it. I think the National trust membership could be interesting if they have christmas activities. maybe this year we might try Kew Garden skating ice rink. But that seem very expensive last year. Might look at it again.

Twims · 03/11/2008 22:17

Well we will be up in North Norfolk for 2 weeks of it

If you can make it London, many museums are free and always have a christmas themed event going on.

As a child, I used to see a Christmas panto and see either Swan Lake or the Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House. It's something I've continued to do every year and it wouldn't be Christmas without it.

Used to live in North Norfolk and actually going back for short break over Christmas this year . There is usually ice skating at the Forum in Norwich. Splash in Sheringham is good for swimming. Local pantomimes should be on. Walks on the beach, woods, National Trust places to visit. Hope this is useful.
