'stocking filler' type ideas for adults?

I'm thinking of making up a bag of small presents for my brother and SIL instead of wracking my brains about what to get them...
I thought maybe 3 or 4 small fun presents - any thoughts what kind of thing might be nice? I'm not hugely close to either of them and tbh always have difficulty thinking of what to give them, so hence the canvasing of broader opinions!

I recently bought DH a very small LED torch that has gone down very well. Great for fumbling around for the keyhole in the dark.

Miniatures of booze
shower gel (superdrug do little bottles0
a big comb if your brother is bald
jar of pickled eggs (surprisingly popular)

Fancy/funny socks.
Classic type DVD that you can get quiet cheaply.
Costume jewelery (for your sil!).
Pretty scarf.

lots of good ideas here

elliott · 30/10/2008 15:18

thanks - I thought of food, chocs, book etc - like the idea of the torch - just want to try and think of something that is fun and nice and not too dull/predictable!
What would you like to receive?
Have particular problems with SIL as she is quite fussy and knows what she does and doesn't like...

Last year I bought SIL some (quite expensive) earrings - just happened to see them and thought they would suit her - texted db before I bought them as I couldn't remember if she ahd pierced ears - he texted back that I had better ask him for guidance first in case I got something she didn't like
I bought them anyway, have no idea whether she liked them (but was happy to take the risk!)
But, you see my problem?

Hmm, if she's fussy you may be best sticking to consumables. Blank note cards, some nice pens.

What about nice luggage labels that hide the address so you don't get a sticker on your bag that says "This house will be empty for a fortnight; burglars, knock yourselves out"?

A couple of times now I have given people small fire extinguishers as housewarming presents. Sometimes you get a look when they unwrap it but every recipient has later told me it was a really good present because they'd been meaning to buy one for years and never got around to it.

travel gadgets is a good idea as she travels a lot for work...

In that case, get yourself down to Boots.

I got a pair of little padlocks, one red with red keys and one blue with blue keys, and they are fantastic. Everyone who travels ends up with 60 crappy brass padlocks and 60 tiny keys floating around on their keyring or in their wallet, but being able to match padlock to key instantly is brilliant.

I bought them in Boots in Bangkok but I'm sure they'll have them in the UK stores.

thanks
fussy recipients are a bit of a mare aren't they?

Small Molton Brown shower gel
Yankee candle
Hotel Chocolat stuff

elliott · 30/10/2008 15:57

Isn't molton brown about a tenner for half a teaspoon full though?

elliott · 30/10/2008 15:58

Budget is about £20-£25 per person.

leoleo · 30/10/2008 16:17

Molton Brown is about £16.
I love MB. Virgin Vie is nice for bath and shower gels.
Nails Inc varnish.

leoleo · 30/10/2008 16:19

This might be naff or not - don't shoot me.

In the Lego Shop yesterday I saw a funny little key holder. Key rings are made from Lego and you press them in to a Lego pad.
They also did salt and pepper shakers - little ones and normal size made from Lego mens heads.

I thought they were quite good stocking fillers.

DippyDora · 30/10/2008 16:21

What about a gift voucher for iTunes, if one of them has an iPod, which I expect they do if they travel a lot.

DippyDora · 30/10/2008 16:26

The gift of music is the gift that keeps on giving

UmMwahahahaaaaa · 30/10/2008 16:42

oh my god. the lego shop is amazing. love it.

thanks

murphyslaw · 30/10/2008 16:57

Lottery scratch card?

leoleo · 30/10/2008 17:32

I think everyone will have a little Lego from me this year

SalLikesCoffee · 30/10/2008 17:43

Well, it's really a children's book, but I thought this was brilliant! It's great in real life - have a look in Waterstones if you have one close.
