Has anyone bought one for their DCs around that age range? I am not convinced she will use it so much? I think its the HSM pack novelty!

my DD 4.5 plays on DS,s all the time and wants one for her 5th birthday next year,we were going to get her one for xmas but she decided she wanted "mummy make me better doll"!!!!

with DD it keeps her quiet and would be well worth the money spent on it for her.

TrinityRhino · 29/10/2008 11:42

she will love it and use it tons
my 8 year old got hers for her 8th birthday but her 3 yr old sister loves it too and begs to play on it and CAN do the games

Jodyray · 29/10/2008 11:42

exactly. My DD played with one on holiday it belonged to a girl we met there. Both she and her sis aged 4 and 6 had one each but for the entire hol they had their heads in the DS!!!

I'm NOT buying one for my 5yr old dd. I think she's too young, I'd rather she was drawing, playing in the garden/with her brother etc etc. I KNOW she would be permanently glued to it if I bought her one.

It is fine so long as you limit the time.

Ds had his when he was 5. I restrict his usage to 1 hour max a day, either in one go or 2 lots of 30 min.

IllegallyBrunette · 29/10/2008 11:46

I paid an extra £13 for 2 years insurance on ds's.

clayrethechildslayre · 29/10/2008 11:50

i have got one for dd's xmas and shes five, i got her the high school musical pack from toys r us, she already plays my ds and i control how much use she plays mine and i will do the same when she gets her own

kyrasmummy · 29/10/2008 11:54

I've got one for my dd who will 4.5, I will obviously restrict the time she uses it.

MrsTitchmarsh · 29/10/2008 11:55

We're getting dd (5) one for christmas. The situation is that her older brother got one for christmas last year, they are close and play together alot, so she is a little left out when he's on his DS, and will do the trick of trying to steal it and hide somewhere to have a quick play on it. ds already has his time on his monitored as when he first got it, was glued to it and he himself even asked us to take it away because he couldn't stop playing it! dd has pestered and pestered for one since ds got his and after thinking about it for a long time I decided it would be ok, so they can play together, link up on games etc, but I will monitor time on it and not let it get in the way of her other interests.

Jodyray · 29/10/2008 12:12

I was lookin at the HSM pack in Toysrus but she already has the DVD! Anyone seen a bundle anywhere which has the console and HSM game? I know GAME had it a while back but our local one no longer has the offer

We're thinking of getting dd(soon to be 9) one for Christmas but as we are both technophobes we don't have a clue about what is involved.
Is the DS a different thing from the DS Lite? If so what is difference?
Is a DS a better bet for her than a PSP? Again, don't really understand difference.

clayrethechildslayre · 29/10/2008 12:22

ebay the dvd or keep as gift for one of her friends, the all come as seperate items

mysteryfairy · 29/10/2008 17:27

My DD got one for xmas last year when she was five. Her 2 older brothers who already owned DSs got a Wii between them. It was bliss in that the main new xmas presents hardly took up any room.

A DS doesn't have an instant wow factor to a five year old when they open it though - I would suggest that you need another toy present (not necessarily of high value) so that she has something to latch on to on the day.

BTW my DD doesn't use her DS that much day to day, but it is invaluable for tedious car journeys, whether all the way to France or just to a swimming lesson - time that's pretty much dead time anyway.
