well i got dd1 fisha nd tank for her bday last month

it has been a popular choice - novelty not worn off yet

Moomin · 27/10/2008 16:16

imho - the first one. Less hassle for you that way. but then again I am pretty anti-pets (or anything that takes time and effort in my own leisure time away from work)

oggsfrog · 27/10/2008 16:17

My dd(8) would prefer Show Jumping Championships. Definately.

nailpolish · 27/10/2008 16:17

but enid the show would be amazing

iheartdusty · 27/10/2008 16:19

you will never have to clean the NEC

so my vote would be for the tickets

(altho' I am very tempted to get my DD (6) gerbils...)

Moomin · 27/10/2008 16:22

and I don't want to get all maudlin or anything but my mum took me to see Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nuyerev (sp) for my 9th b'day as I was mad on ballet. My mum died the following year and I've always always remembered it as a fabulous day out. Can't even remember the actually dancing but I remember the excitement of it all.

Fishes come and go (and swim round and round and round and round)

I agree with moomin - going to a big show will give her a lasting memory.

Blu · 27/10/2008 16:24

ooh, she will LOVE the showjumping.
And hopefully she will not have Moomin's experience.....
I was taken to the Horse of the Year show at about that age and was ecstatic.

Moomin · 27/10/2008 16:36

well, yeah... hopefully !

Blu · 27/10/2008 16:38

Buy the tix, Enid, we will all pray for your health

FimboGotAxed · 27/10/2008 16:40

Tickets

foothesnoo · 27/10/2008 16:41

Do you mean a proper aquarium? they are so much hassle, I would chose the horses!

Eniddo · 27/10/2008 17:42

lol at health!

although seriously moomin that is a lovely memory

I must say I might find the nec a bit of an ordeal myself (slightly claustrophobic) but would brave it for dd1 as I know she will LOVE it - also we will stay in a hotel on sat night, just the two of us - a big treat!

dh is anti the tickets as he thinks it is a bit boring to open on the day and also a deferred treat - but I think dd1 will be thrilled

OMG my dd1 would love to stay in a hotel just me and her - she would explode with delight at the thought

sound slike a brilliant present!

roisin · 27/10/2008 18:17

Tickets definitely.

GrimmaTheNome · 27/10/2008 18:21

If she's into horses, then the tickets plus a horsey book (or three) she can pore over till then.

If you got the fish, chances are some would have died well before Easter.

Eniddo · 27/10/2008 18:23

I think I am going to go ahead an book the tickest [gulp]

without dhs approval which means I will have to pay for them myself [doublt gulp]

Tickets are a great idea as a main present so long as they will not be the only pressie she receives all christmas!

HeyThereGhoulyGirl · 28/10/2008 18:00

Love the idea of the fish and tank. Been wondering what on earth to get DD1 (7) as fed up of tripping over plastic tatt. This is why I love MN.

oggsfrog · 30/10/2008 11:15

Did you buy the tickets Enid?

I'm thinking that it would be a great present for dd's 9th birthday in Feb - she would be over the moon if she could get to see the puissance and she's familiar with all the contestants in the show jumping.

Have spent last few days trying to work out if we could afford it (it's a long way from Scotland).
