This year, as every year, it feels as though she has just had a birthday and I am all out of ideas. DD is not easy to buy for as she doesn?t really play with toys much and she?s not a pink and fluffy girl.

I not only have to think of soething for us to buy her, but also also have to come up with suggestions for relatives! So am looking for inspiration. Share your DD?s Christmas lists with me please!

piratecat - its fine! perfect for a 6 yr old

the volume is round the back and dd doesnt even know its there - genius!!!

Enid will look into the wiki sticks, are they mess free, dd loves hama but she does get them everywhere.

Eniddo · 27/10/2008 17:43

they are sort of mess free although I do find them on the carpet and they pick up bits of hair and go a bit yukky

but dd2 does them in her bed at night and they are a lot less messy than hama beads or felt pens

twinsetandpearls · 27/10/2008 18:01

I thought it was just my dd who did stuff like that in bed.

Eniddo · 27/10/2008 18:25

no mine is up till god knows when 'making stuff' and working on her novel

popsycal · 27/10/2008 18:29

i am stuck for 6 year old ds1......

twinsetandpearls · 27/10/2008 20:20

Dd is currently working on her latest ready to wear collection and her anthology of poems

Six year olds were so much simpler when I was a lass.

I could have written the OP. My dd has just turned 6, literally, and I struggled to find things for her birthday, now suddenly Christmas is near.

She also hates dolls and doesn't do pink / girly. She doesn't like the Playmobile figures at all.

Last Christmas I got her a desk and chair and a lot of nice pens, papers, stickers, all kinds of things she could do at her desk. It was a big hit. But this year ...

So far I've found a microscope set from Hamley's and I've seen some good 'bug world' type things like ant homes that live in and eat a special gel while making interesting track lines. I've got her a couple of games and a couple of books. But no 'main' present.

I thinks he might go for some kind of construction set. But which one? Any recommendations?

Dd also does stuff in bed. Usually in the mornings though.

tissy · 27/10/2008 21:42

all my dd (nearly 7) wants for Christmas is a "Rescue Pal"- swimming plastic dog , or a real live puppy.

The Rescue Pal it is, then!

On her birthday list (January) she already has:

A wee (Wii)
A PSP (she already has a DS)
An mp3 player
My Life (a game of some sort?)
Lelly Kellys
HSM DVDs
A puppy
£10
A Horid Henry DVD
A trip to the see side (in January? We live 10 miles from the sea!)
A trip to McDonalds

I'm not mad on the ant thing in any case but I'm just stuck for ideas!

zazen · 27/10/2008 23:23

Why don't you buy her some riding lessons.
Or a kite?

Plonker · 27/10/2008 23:48

My dd will be 6 in March.

Her favourite things in the world are, her ...

Bike
Scooter
In-line skates
Playhouse
Paper/pens/crayons/scissors/glue
Books (especially the activity books with the wipe clean pages)
Illumination station

Father Christmas is bringing her a Wii, a rainbow skip (light up skipping rope) and some books.

Plonker · 27/10/2008 23:49

Oh and she has a little desk and chair that has been worth its weight in gold!!

purpleduck · 28/10/2008 00:06

My dd LOVES those Street Glider things, her MP3 player, cuddly toys (sigh)

She is now campaining for a camera.

imaginaryfriend · 28/10/2008 22:53

What are Street Gliders?

And I'm so surprised so many 6-year-olds have MP3 players. I don't think dd would have a clue how to work one or what to do with it.

purpleduck · 28/10/2008 23:02

Street Gloders are those strap on wheels that attach to their trainers.

My kids both LOVE them - make the walk to school more interesting!!!

imaginaryfriend · 28/10/2008 23:09

I feel such a fuddy-duddy sometimes!

I just started a thread about MP3 players. Any advice on what kind is good for a child? Compatible with a mac? And can you listen to them without headphones?

Eniddo · 29/10/2008 14:27

i-pods are the best by a long way

yes if you buy mini speakers

sillybillyme · 29/10/2008 14:38

what about a cardboard box - only joking! You get cardboard box play houses (very eco) from babybill.co.uk - you can fold these away and bring them out when you are finished! Your little one can decorate and personalise them which is nice. If she doesn't fancy a house there is always an igloo.

ladypinky · 30/10/2008 22:17

Hi
DD is 6 she is getting a DS and a game, Subscription to the junior club of the English National Ballet, or something like sponsering an animal ie Brian at Monkey World.Panto tickets and other odds and sods, same here not toys this year they just don't get used, gone for practical things like music stand and music book bag.

arfishy · 30/10/2008 23:08

I've been struggling with DD this year too. She turns 6 a week before Christmas.

Earlier this year she was asking for a dolls house for her birthday but I knew she'd never play with it. She's animal mad so we've now settled on hermit crabs, which she's been asking for for over a year.

Her birthday will actually fall in England so on the day she'll get some books and Tom and Jerry DVDs (her most favourite) - small stuff that we can take home with us. Mum's getting her some travel games.

For Christmas she's getting some board games (electronic Guess Who, Mousetrap), a couple of DS games (this is partially because we're doing a 24 hour flight so I'm prepared to spend extra for my sanity), a scooter, a talking globe (useful as we're in Oz and family elsewhere), some beados and some Garden Girlz stuff (where you plant your own flowers).

She likes Polly Pocket and Littlest pet shop too.

aznerak · 31/10/2008 08:23

Hi there

Anyone know where to get Wiki Sticks from?

Sound brill so thanks for this recommendation!

How old are they suitable for? My DD turns 4 yrs 10 days before Christmas and my DS will be 7 a week before Christmas!!!!!!!!!!! Terrible planning on our part. Both children have bithdays within 10 days of Xmas.

DD is extremely creative and very good fine motor skills - would wiki sticks be okay for her? What do you buy? Sets? Where from? Please help!

TheRedQueen · 31/10/2008 08:30

What about a watch? She must just be at the point of learning to tell the time.
