If so can you tell me what you got - and whether you would recommend it? Thanks!

The Canon power shot A460, I got it for my nephew and he loves it. It's very easy to use, comes in bright colous, quite sturdy, brilliant quality images and a good guarantee.
I got it on sale in Jessops.

Not for that age group, but I've actually just bought them for my (really surprisingly careful) 5 and 3 y.o.'s for christmas. They're from Tesco direct and only cost £30 - seem fine when I've checked them over, but they don't come with a memory card, you need to put one in. We have spares lying around so it's no big deal, but a rather sneaky way of making htem so cheap! 5 megapixels, screen on back, seem fairly standard and will do hte job.

we got this for dd who was 6 at the time, she loves it but the picture quality
is not good.

Thanks - the Canon sounds possible from this lits, as DS a bit older.

I bought my Ds a small and basic one in TKMaxx for Christmas 2006. He was 8 and loves it.

SolosWhompingWillow · 27/10/2008 15:39

Paid about £15 I think.

DD2 (aged 7) has this one, although it was just less than £60.

Ceolas · 27/10/2008 15:46

She loves making videos!

We got a couple of digital cameras from e-bay for our 2 dds when they were about that age.

We knew at that age there was not alot of point in buying a new one as they would get dropped but the saving on processing film was worth the £15 on each camera that we spent.

The GP's bought my son this one last Christmas. He was 5 then and is a very careful concsensious boy.

He loves taking black and white pictures with his.

S'funny you mention this one- as our Kodak easy share C613s, bought for our Ds1's 9th birthday 5 months ago, is sitting beside me awaiting return to Asda from whence it came as it has been increasingly temperamental and finally just will not turn on at all. As it was, the batteries were barely lasting 2 weeks with minimal usage! DH who's way more techie than me has posted on his 'forums' (I don't ask...!) and apparently there have been a lot of problems with this camera and this fault! It's a real pity as when it was working it was a great little camera for a child with very simple point'n'shoot facilities plus the ability to do more complex stuff should a DC wish.

Oh well!

kalo12 · 03/11/2008 20:27

I've just seen one in the bright sparks catalogue

We just bought secondhand/reconditioned Sonys/Fujis from ebay for birthdays at that age as well. DC's very happy with them and saved us a fortune in printing etc.
