I do. Maybe slightly more on my parents when taking into account pocket money gifts from the DCs.

don't buy for our aunts and uncles at all. only £10 max on nephews and nieces.

But Dsis (who earns a massive amount more than me & DH) has suggested we cut the budget by half this year (as she does every year, until she gets overtime before xmas and then doubles it again making everyone else feel bad at the crapness of their gifts)

babyOcho · 15/10/2008 21:12

yeah, but it will only get out of hand.

for our siblings plus partners (8 of us) we buy one present per person - secret santa style, but not a secret. it's £30 per present.

for parents its a bit more. dont bother with anyone else, apart from the children (nephews and nieces). and that is now going to be capped at £10 per child - we have all agreed, otherwise it gets out of control.

do your aunts and uncles buy for you or your dcs though? i wouldn't buy for mine but they usually send me and ds a fiver in a card.

DMs brother buys for the DCs and sometimes we get a bottle of wine, none of DFs sisters do. Sometimes send Aunts and Uncles photos of the DCs as xmas gifts.

RiallyEeRiaee · 15/10/2008 21:17

we don't even exchange xmas cards with DHs aunts and uncles

If it was a token gift I probably wouldn't bother but I feel as though I should when they are spending a tenner on us.

a nice calendar nappyaddict? or just a token gift from your DS? I'm sure they don't expect anything in return.

(BTW I haven't met most of DHs aunts and uncles, it's not me being tight, they just seem to be a really distant family)

nappyaddict · 15/10/2008 21:31

Rially - do you just send the photo or do you frame them?

OP posts:
RiallyEeRiaee · 15/10/2008 21:33

just a photo (my A&U have 5 grandkids and the walls are like a shrine, so I don't really expect them to display it). I did once give DHs parents framed photos and MIL complained because the frames didn't match the others she had on the wall.

DH's side of the family all agreed a few years back that all presents should be a surprise (no lists) and should not cost more than 10 pounds. Has worked really well. Doesn't apply to children, and we don't buy for uncles/aunts.

mashedbanana · 15/10/2008 21:36

i spend £5 on dh's step sisters dc's and £10 on my 2 nieces.don't see them very often so i think it's enough to spend.spend quite a lot on my mum though but i buy bits throughout the year.

cherryliquormonster · 16/10/2008 09:42

adult wise, i only buy for my mum and dad, brother and sister and two grandmothers. my aunties and uncles get cards, they send us cards, sometimes with money for the kids, sometimes not depending on how well off they are that year. a couple of my cousins have kids and i usually send money for them as its a long way.

Prufrock · 16/10/2008 09:48

We do. I buy for our parents, 3 siblings, and 4 aunts/uncles. And they buy for us. Everyone has a max of £10 spend, except on your own spouse, and I have a suspicion that my mother spends more on the kids (as do we obviously). The kids give a present to everyone as well, which is always something personalised - mugs with pictures on, photo's with home decorated frames. I do also buy a present from santa for everyone who stays in our house on Xmas eve (15 this year) which is usually very small - literally so as it has to fit in a tiny stocking that they hang on their bedroom door.
