actually dd1 will be 7 a few weeks before xmas.

they have played on there cousins one a couple of times but are not desperate to get one iykwim.

dh and i decided at the start of the year that it is prob what we would be getting them this year (cant remember why we decided that )

anyway now the mad rush has started and a friend struggled to get hers this week, alothough this was the cheapest package could prob still get the more expensive ones no bother.

at this age would they love us forever for getting it or are they still a bit on the young side?

they have a ds, leapster, psp and gameboy already if that makes any diffrence.

i am still bitter about the fact i bought them that bloody butterscotch pony last year that they have never really looked at so i am obv a crap present buyer and dont want to make another expensive mistake this year!!

I bet they will love it

however mine aren't THAT bothered so we aren't getting one

We have had a wii for 2 years now, and the kids still love it. My 4 y/o DS is sat next to me right now playing Lego Indiana!

I think the wii is the best computer type console out there for kids and great for the family. They kids have played wii tennis with their 80 y/o great grandad!

Although they dont play it all the time, just about enough IMO.

Our boys will be 6 and 4 at christmas and we are getting them a wii between them. I've only heard good things about them to be honest.

lavenderbongo · 11/10/2008 19:24

The wii is a fab console. My dd1 is 4 and she loves playing on it. I think the younger ones like it because you can play as a family. When my parents came down we all play wii sports together. I lost count of the number of time they played the tennis and golf.

However my DH is a pain as he is currently playing that new star wars "force" game. How can a 32 yr old still like pretending to be a Jedi?

notsoteenagemum · 11/10/2008 19:30

Sorry kerryk but rofl at butterscotch! I imagine it neighing quietly in a corner!

Seriously though learn from your mistake- I take it they weren't desparate for the pony and didn't play with it.
If they play with all those other consoles they have do they really need another one and if they don't play with them they prob don't want another one.
What have they asked for?

ChippyMinton · 11/10/2008 19:42

i've formed the impression (from what goes on chez minton) that video games are more of a boy thing, so I wouldn't bother getting one unless they have asked for it.

You could always get one just in case, see what they ask for, and either keep or sell it on?

Lilyloo · 11/10/2008 19:44

My ds 6 loves it and plays it a lot but dd who will be 4 in Jan doesn't really bother with it.
She prefers nintendo ds but ds doesn't really bother with that.
Have you asked them to write list of what they want.

TheMadHouse · 11/10/2008 19:45

Yes, yes and yes

We love out wii and my brother was so impressed that he got one and my neice adores it too. It is great for all using together and a dora game is coming out soon. DS1 is so excited

We all played football on it today and guess what the three year old won.

I have got the family may for us all for Xmas as our pressie.

melpomene · 11/10/2008 19:50

We have one and haven't used it a lot so far because the basic games (bowling, tennis etc) were too tricky for our dds. However, dh just bought Family Trainer game for it and it is great. All 4 of us played for hours this afternoon and it was great fun as well as exercise. Some of the games were hard for DD2 (age 3 1/2), but there were several that she could do well enough and she beat all of us at the skipping rope game . So I think (hope) we'll be using the Wii a lot more now we've got the Family Trainer.

It is good exercise and very sociable.

melpomene · 11/10/2008 19:51

(My dd1 is 5 1/2 and she loved the Family Trainer too.)

kerryk · 12/10/2008 10:53

thanks everyone.

yep butterscotch is sitting in a corner (and its tail has fallen of )

neither of them seem to want anything for xmas. dd1 has asked for rabbit treats to give to her rabbit and dd2 wants a plastic butterfly (bless them)

seemingly my brother has told my mum that he wants to buy them one for xmas so i am going to have to find out if that is right or not before i buy it. hopefully he has said that though

We bought a wii for ds who is 5 and ds who is 4 and after the first couple of weeks they got bored of it and it is now gathering dust. Complete waste of money for us

mumto2andnomore · 12/10/2008 13:16

I would go for it my 5 and 9 year olds love it and so do we !

Nappyzoneneedssleep · 12/10/2008 16:09
