In the sammyK household ds still playing with ELC Marble run, and a matchbox cars spooky house toy.

Thought this would maybe give us ideas on presents to buy that won't end up in the back of the oy cupboard.

Ds still loves his DS Lite. He didn't get much else tbh. and it is probably more than he'll get this year.

I actually did the helium balloons for my niece and nephew and they were a real hit. Thanks for suggestions.

My 2 still love their Santa presents - ds (5) his scooter and dd (now 2) her pram.

Other hits include ds' alarm clock, but interestingly kid k/nex and magnetix which are listed here as top toys haven't been big hits.

santa got dd a cheap dolls house (30 euros from smyths) as i didn't want the pair of them destroying an expensive one (they were almost 3 and 18 months at the time) just as well as it's gotton loads of play but has been monumentally battered, mostly when ds fell on it of the bed and climbed it to get to a window. will be getting them a joint present of a good one this year now that i know it'll get played with.... the old one can be the granny flat

santa got ds a wooden train set for 20euros in dunnes and that is still fought over on a daily basis.

got ds a trike, here the same one as his big sis but in red... gets tonnes of use although he's at that awkward in between age of 'doesn't want to be pushed but can't quite pedal' at the minute but seems happy enough pushing along with his feet

dd got loads of smaller things like barbies i'd picked up in lidl, a family of sylvanian cats, a really good jeep, trailer and horses (she's toy car obsessed) all of which still get played with tonnes.

in fact, everything still gets played with and although i've listed who they were given to on the day all toys are communal except cuddlies so they all get played with by both kids.

Hits (not just from last year) are:

Marble run (that they build themselves, every time different) DS1 got it for his 3rd birthday and is still heavily used by DS3, now 3y (6 years on)

brio (-like) traintrack

x-box Lego Starwars

table football (9 games in one actually)

i had to smile when i saw this, as i have just fished Upsy Daisy out of the washing machine...she has no eyes, just about sings, her skirt is ripped- and DD loves her to bits. Best £18 i have EVER spent on ANYONE!!

NosfeRaahhTu · 17/10/2008 21:37

(I must add that it wasn't washing her that caused the damage!!)

Bloodandchatkins · 17/10/2008 21:39

scooters - big hits with the dds, they ride them almost every day to school and back.
Slyvanian families - dd1 (6) is into these in a big way and wants more this year, I don't mind at all as she finds time to play with them every day, its money well spent !

dd2 and ds both love trains so I am watching many thomas sets on ebay!

beautifuldays · 17/10/2008 21:41

dd, now almost 2, has played with the early learning centre fairyland bluebell boot thing practically every day since last xmas

redrobin...what a lovely idea, but do you need to buy the helium gas to fill the balloons (expensive I imagine) or just buy them already filled?
