Toddler stocking fillers

Thought it might be nice to have a place to share ideas for our toddlers stocking fillers.

im trying to cut down on huge expensive things that never get played with. So, so far for stockings I’ve got

  • colouring book
  • crayola twistables that I saw on sale
  • a mess free colouring set
  • a Peppa pig book that was only £1 in b&m
  • Some masking tape just because I know it’ll be a hit
  • a light up toothbrush

my toddler loves opening gifts though, so I’m aiming to get lots more little things to put in there. Any other suggestions?

For me a stocking is an actual large sock so there isn’t too much we could fit into it. So I will go for the smaller items type list others are doing-

foam soap always a hit
a new flannel (those ones that are tiny then grow when wet)
NOT bath crayons if you have any grouting as it won’t clean off!!
Funnel and small jug for bath

Cardboard kaleidoscope
or mini bug catcher

wind up toy- could be Xmas theme but not necessary

train whistle or bird whistle
mini maracas or other little instrument eg jingle bells (not for ones who still mouth though unless child safe ones that are enclosed)

Small cuddly toy or keyring cuddly to clip onto nursery bag.

new plate or bowl or cutlery with name on it
water bottle

Book or board books

I love the pp idea of ornaments relating to their interest. So sad I haven’t done that for my children but might start for the grandkids ❤️

A little variety pack box of cereal they wouldn’t normally be allowed eg; cocoa pops, Frosties. Then we’d save the “boring” rice crispies and corn flakes to make Easter baskets if no one wanted to eat them.

Love this thread. We have a three year old and I am doing exactly the same this year, lots of little bits rather than one big present that gets abandoned by Boxing Day.

Last year the biggest hits were honestly the silly things. A stack of sticker sheets kept ours entertained for ages, and a new rubber duck with some bubble bath made bath time feel like an event. We also tucked in a book where he already knew the characters, and he went mad for it because he recognised them straight away.

With our little one we have learned to lean into sensory things because that is what he responds to best, so this year we are trying little squishy balls, a story torch since he is obsessed with lights, and bath crayons.

One lesson we learned the hard way: keep the chocolate to one small thing. Ours polished off half the advent calendar on December 1st last year and then nothing could ever compete again.

Which story torch are you getting?

Great thread.

Last year I got my son (3) a Kidz Lab moon torch and he loves it still. He keeps it next to his bed and uses it to come and find us in the night if he's scared (like at 4am today).

Other hits for him have been those little Palm Pals beanie toys. They lovely quality and also washable. A bit like Jelly Cats but without the price tag.

Also He was also a fan of electric toothbrush

This year I'm going to (probably) get some of the following;

  • Foam gliding airplanes
  • Kaleidoscope or binoculars
  • Tony character
  • Roll of stick on road track and stick on signs (we use these when we go away to stick to floor or tables)

great ideas.
I’ve picked up one of those expanding flannels a few people have mentioned.

bath crayons someone mentioned it not coming out the grout, if you wipe it quickly it usually comes off, but if you don’t spot it straight away you can put a tiny bit of bleach on some toilet roll and push it on the grout for a minute, it comes off then Ime. Mine are obsessed so I really try to encourage only drawing on the bath itself as much as possible!
as an alternative I got these bath bombs. Tbh we just use them for the water table in the summer but imagine they’d be good in the bath too

I’ve also purchased today a pair of crocs shoes for her much loved baby born doll. £6.40 on Amazon and perfect stocking size.

She’ll love that her baby will have crocs just like her.

@bt1234 You caught me before checkout! I haven't bought it yet, but I've been looking at the projection-style ones that show little story pictures on the wall or ceiling. Ours is obsessed with lights so anything with changeable picture discs feels made for him. I will report back once one survives the three-year-old durability test, though honestly the way last Christmas went a 50p wind-up toy could still win the year.
