Hello, I was wondering if anyone would be able to recommend the best premier inn in Newcastle for christmas activities/markets with children aged 2 & 6. Will be going for a couple of nights just before Christmas.

Thank you 🙂

Speaking as a proud Geordie.... how attached are you to this idea? I haven't been hugely impressed by the city centre stuff in the past.

Quayside is a steep walk to the town centre but obviously good for the quayside if you want the market there

Oh no. We drove over last year but couldn't get parked and ended up just having a mooch around the metro. We just like visiting places looking at the christmas lights. We will only be here for 2 nights. We stayed in Alnwick the year before last.

The best bit of Newcastle Christmas is Fenwicks’ window. Once you’ve seen that, the rest is a bit flat. There’s an overpriced “Christmas market”. The lights are usually so so. Honestly, I’m really proud of my home but I wouldn’t visit for a Christmas thing.

BUT, if you want North East, then definitely! Beamish is fab for Christmas, particularly for kids. Cragside and Wallington both open for Christmas. Bamburgh does a lovely Christmas and Alnwick Gardens have a fab Christmas lights trail. If you want to use Newcastle as a base, pop along and see Fenwicks and go around the region then you’ll have a great time.

To answer your actual question (!), the Premier Inn on the Quayside is as good as any but it’s a steep hill up to town. I’d probably be tempted to book somewhere out of town (I’ve heard Silverlink is ok). You can then drive or get the bus to town.

The big one at The Gate, (old Co-op building,) on Newgate Street is closest to everything as its right in the middle of town. Fenwicks, Christmas markets, station, buses, Metro station all 5 minutes walk away, (probably 10 with small children!) But, the compromise is, that its right in the middle of town and in the heart of the 'Party City', so busy and noisy area until late night / early morning. I've stayed there and inside the rooms are quiet, so unlikely to disturb you sleeping, but the other Premier Inns are in slightly 'quieter' areas of town.

Proud Geordie here but way too many homeless people to enjoy the city centre now sadly.
