Joint present for 3-year-old and 15-month-old?

Hi,

I know I know, it’s too early to be thinking about Christmas! But I want some ideas of joint presents I could get our (will be) 15-month-old DD and almost 3-year-old DS. I want something that they can both use as they get older and start to play together. We already have lots of books & puzzles etc., and have a play kitchen, lots of building toys i.e. magnetic tiles, mega megabloks.

Budget-wise willing to spend ~£150, possibly more for the ‘perfect’ toy.

Sorry ignore me can't read apparently.

Although the concept of sharing a big toy at that age will probably be a bit of a struggle for them. How about some play equipment for the garden?

SummerFleurs · 05/06/2026 16:21

I’d either build on your magnetic tiles set (we did this and have quite a substantial set now) or a wooden unit block set such as community playthings depending on if you’re into this. This two have lasted the longest in our house and have both evolved with my nearly 10yo’s imagination

Either a trampoline or a combined sand-and-water play table.

Stapelstein stepping stones? A Yoto player? It would be more but maybe a play sofa?

Lou98x · 05/06/2026 16:39

Thanks all! The outdoor toys are a good idea, providing DH finishes the garden this year 😂 we haven’t anything outdoorsy, and really too many indoor toys as it is!

Pikler triangle. We got ours at a similar stage and it’s got YEARS of use

I had thought about a modular play sofa, we’d just need to reduce the amount of toys we have now to make room I think. But DS is just getting into making dens/tunnels, etc. with blankets, so I imagine as they get older this would be a good idea.

Slide, swing, mud kitchen? We got a Wendy house off facebook, they love it and we can store outside toys in it

Could you get them a two part present, each part being suitable for their specific ages?

I was thinking of train sets. The first one for the older child, the second for the toddler.

I’d recommend the Staplestein stepping stones. Ours get played with daily and they were joint present for mine

modgepodge · 05/06/2026 16:58

I’d say some sort of climbing frame for the garden, or a piklar triangle type thing for the inside. My small 7 year old still plays on ours when I get it out for the 2 year old. Or a den building kit.

or a Yoto, but I’d lean towards one each of those and they might share cards.

Pernicketywishes · 05/06/2026 17:03

A really lovely sand pit or swing and some garden toys.
At that age it’s great to buy ahead for the summer. You might get some bargains at the end of this summer too!

There you go then. Outdoor toys is it.

That was easy.

Oh this is such a good idea! We have some train tracks already so maybe not that, but I love the idea of matching, age-appropriate presents. I will have a think about that - thank you!

We tend to do one big joint present with mine as well as a few smaller ones. The ones I can remember- trampoline, aquarium with fish, climbing frame, Nintendo switch (obviously not for you this year!)

BertieBotts · 05/06/2026 22:46

Wooden train track set. For £150 you could get a really good starting setup.

Cherryrainbow · 09/06/2026 00:33

Many have suggested outdoors toys and that gets my vote too lol

Maybe consider also something 'duplicate' not exactly joint eg a small gift hamper each with same theme but tailored to their likes and ages e.g disney theme, cosy bedtime, duplo or building sets, making music etc.

AImportantMermaid · 09/06/2026 00:37

Scooters. Mine loved them. They had Micro-scooters.
