Exactly if you organised a trip to Venice he’s an arse.

besides unless you got married on Christmas Day or at some point near you celebrate your anniversary on your anniversary Christmas is just Christmas

Heatmizer · 04/01/2026 06:48

Am interested in your user name.

Makes a difference to what you usually do (was this unusual?), and how you split your finances.

Well obviously that's rubbish of him. Shows lack of thought. What is he usually like with present giving?
I'm kind of intrigued by your gifts too. Four(!) pairs of jeans.a pistol holder?

Heatmizer · 04/01/2026 06:59

He is a big hearted person do anything for you but gifts suck I just need to call it and forget it

SomewhatAnnoyed · 04/01/2026 07:03

Why don’t you discuss in advance? Decide a budget and stick to it. Failing that write him a list if you don’t want to actually buy your own gifts. What’s his excuse for being so crap?

Maybe he will bag you something for dinner.

moose62 · 04/01/2026 07:17

You have bought him loads of duplicates! After 25 years of presumably getting rubbish presents from him, why did you buy so much?
We're you setting him up to fail? As you have been married for so long, why didn't you choose what you would like and send him the link.
My DH can only function if I do that. He tries hard but usually misses the mark and I would rather have what I want than feel disappointed on the day.

That's a ridiculous, over the top amount of gifts. Would you want him to buy you a load of clothes that might not fit or suit you?

If you want things, buy them. It all comes out of the same pot anyway.

You say he's a big hearted person who will do anything for you, surety that's what's important, not material goods.

In fairness this all sounds as tedious and functional as an umbrella.

Permanentlybewildered · 04/01/2026 07:44

DH who is temporarily disabled after a fall couldn’t think what he wanted for Christmas so I bought him a very expensive Rolator that can convert to a wheelchair so I can push him if he gets tired - he bought me nothing.

I received a pseudo-medicinal Russian concoction that can be added to coffee, presumably because I have cancer and like coffee. Will trade (husbands or gifts).

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 04/01/2026 07:50

Is 25th Christmas a thing???

Onemorechristmas · 04/01/2026 08:03

My genuine first thought on reading what you got for him is, can’t he buy his own clothes? But back to the point, I’m guessing you’re upset about the lack of thought. My DH is crap at buying presents too. He literally gets me nothing but I don’t really care any more as I’m an adult and can buy what I want. Would love a bit of thought though

No !

do you buy so much op to prove a point/martyr yourself? It sounds quite passive aggressive. It’s also far too much, it’s like you are shopping for a child. Why would you buy him four pairs of jeans.

IDontHateRainbows · 04/01/2026 11:00

Was he inspired by the Rihanna song?

BlackCat14 · 04/01/2026 11:40

I have so many questions!

Are you particularly bothered because it’s your 25th Christmas, and feel like this is some sort of anniversary and gifts need to be bigger and better?
Does he normally only get you one, small gift? Or was this a total shock seeing as he’s usually generous?
Why did you buy him FOUR pairs of jeans?
Even though you bought him much more, do you see how your gifts are similar vibe and not really much more thoughtful? He gets you an umbrella, you get him hats and socks. Same same.

Lightuptheroom · 04/01/2026 12:24

They don't generally improve with age! My mum was married to my dad for 65 years, in all that time he never bought her a birthday or a Christmas gift, his limit was 'heres some money for a gift'
Christmas is way over the top in expectations between adults, my dh and I buy each other a small gift and then don't worry about it

That sounds just as impersonal and uninspired as a brolly.

25th Christmas together isn't a special romantic landmark moment in a relationship anyway. Hence you getting him a load of practical stuff.

BauhausOfEliott · 04/01/2026 12:38

Neither of you sound like good gift buyers. You spent more money, but nothing you bought was any more interesting or fun than an umbrella.
