The cost of Christmas

I’m just curious to find out how much we have all spent this year on Christmas?.

Considering the state of the economy, are we spending less?, or the same?

Part of the brokeness is the distribution of wealth.

True enough. The problem now is the system makes it harder to cross the divide. The tax I face has made me wonder if I would have bothered making the jump now like I did 20 years ago. The country needs growth, you need people that are hungry for success. I’m not sure I know the answer to the conundrum, but I think without an increase in productivity, we can’t improve lives like we used to.

£12 for a turkey crown plus veg - about £18 which I used a voucher I had from M & S. £10 for bottle of bubbles from Aldi which is unopened.
1 second class stamp and used some Christmas Cards I had in the cupboard for neighbours.
That's it.

Don't talk bollocks.

Nobody I know on benefits is rich.

Do you wish to abolish the welfare state? No support for people unexpectedly jobless, no NHS etc.

Stupid post.

No I didn't say I would abolish it at all. Nor did I say everyone on benefits was rich, just that they weren't broke. We pay everyone enough to be comfortable in this country. Hence why pretty much everyone in is spending £500 plus on Christmas.

£500 on presents

£500 on activities such as pantomime and light shows plus some advent calendars

£300 extra on food

£300 on NYE

My DH and I did some nights out with our own friends but we use our personal money for this. Plus £130 on my DH, again from personal money.

Overall fairly similar to last year

The whole family mutually agreed to cut down this year, we spent around £300 in total
and a great time was had by all 😃

Im not sure but I think I spent £400 more in december. Howevee this counts xmas events like a family theatre trip, santa visit, gifts for 1 kid, husband, food etc..,

I was a bit surprised actually as we dont have a big xmas event.

According to my spreadsheet I spent £70 less this year on presents for everyone, but probably spent a bit more on food and drink as I was hosting this year - overall I'd say it was slightly less than last year. It isn't bad as I also have an additional DC this year I had to buy for or the older one would have asked questions!

I thought I’d kept it under £1000. I hadn’t included £20 replacing lights and a tree topper, plus the cheeseboard we took to family. No sale spends unless we’re counting a cut price Christmas pudding.
