I thought a thread with most successful presents might be nice.
I’m very interested in what was loved by 4 year olds as DD birthday is coming up.

Here successes were: photo glasses cleaning cloths for grandparents, fahlo tracking bracelets for my partner and mum, chattering teeth for DD (3) and a dolls wheelchair (brought from a charity shop!).

Addidas sambas for my teen daughter. I was so worried I got the size/type wrong, but they fit perfectly and she was so excited over them!

Jellybum2019 · 27/12/2025 14:32

lovely thread idea and really useful for future present ideas!

I have two boys, 4 and 6, and our hits were:

screwball scramble, sock game junior, magnetic dartboard, little live pets walking penguin and pig, remote control excavator/dumper from Smyths which were £10 each and easily the best remote control toys we’ve ever had and I would highly highly recommend!

a game we didn’t get, but played with at a friends house was Flip Side (electronic game) which my 6 year old loved so that’s on his birthday list.

also got one of the glasses cleaning cloths for grandparents and went down lovely!

Left-handed secateurs from Niwaki - beautiful quality and great customer service.

Chocolates from Brecon Chocolates - decided to buy less chocolate but better quality this year, these were lovely.

Tosy magnetic Pyramid for autistic DD and DSD. They have enjoyed finding new shapes and fidgeting with it . It was bought for DD but DSD has thoroughly enjoyed playing with it, so she is going to spend some of her Christmas money to buy her own one. Eldest DD is in love with her weighted blanket and her cozy coloring books and posca pens.

A family gift we got was a board game called outsmarted. It's an electronic quiz game that adapts the questions based on age so it's been great to be able to play together and gives the little one a chance.

Yes that was my thought! Could your 4 year old manage screwball scramble?

4 and 7 year old here. They have loved everything but particular hits were the baby annabelle cotbed and a headband making kit for 4 year old DD, and a chess set and binoculars for 7 year old DS.

Oh yes DD here loved her baby carrier and changing bag.
Could you link to the headband kit please?

He can sort of give it a go but needed a lot of support, I wouldn’t personally recommend it that young he’s too little plus the balls are small , 6 year old much more independent and understood the concept and has enjoyed working out how to do each section.

Thank you that’s what I was thinking

2 x 8yr olds, a 6yr old and a 5yr old in our house on Christmas Day. A Makedo set for building things out of cardboard. They all spent the entire afternoon using all the cardboard boxes plus more out of the recycling to build their creations.

It was this one on Amazon: GOLDGE DIY Headband Making Kit for Girls 5-12, Birthday Gifts and Party Favors

I saw quite a few with really extravagant, not really wearable bit and pieces. With this one DD has made some quite delicate and wearable ones (before getting carried away and adding another 20 pieces om top of each other 😂).

It was her cheapest gift and the biggest hit of all!

PermanentTemporary · 27/12/2025 16:56

For ds aged 21: Fat Face pyjamas via M&S (penguin print so imo subtly Christmassy). Gave them as a main present as they were about £85 Shock but now on sale for half price Angry

PermanentTemporary · 27/12/2025 16:57

For me: Phillips 5400 bean to cup coffee machine. Absolutely awesome.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/12/2025 17:02

DD 19 Ninja blast mini blender,

DS 17 Gibbon balance board (small
portable slack line) and a climbers ball thing to practice hand holds

Oooo I might steal the makedo idea, it sounds great! DS is forever wanting to build things. Which set did you get?

A Russell Hobbs coffee machine for DD aged 20. She absolutely loves it and it has been in constant use since Christmas morning. She was supposed to be spending yesterday and today with her boyfriend’s family but has popped home briefly both days for a coffee. So it is also a great present from my point of view as I now get to spend more time with my DD!

christmassaurus · 27/12/2025 20:41

My 4yo loves her magnetic tiles and a couple of games picked up in charity shops (Funny Bunnys and Paw Patrol Junior Labyrinth), oh and a spiderman bobble hat which she 'wished for' from santa.

My mum also loved her fahlo tracking bracelet - apparently she'd been looking at them but couldn't decide if it was too gimmicky so was delighted at getting one for a gift.

PMAmostofthetime · 27/12/2025 20:46

youngest DD 3polaroid type thermal printing camera from Amazon one of her cheapest presents and she has had hours and hours of fun, and we have lots of black and white photos from the last few days we bought a scrap book today and she had even more fun using stick glue to stick them down and adding some stickers. Definitely recommend.

Fireside10 · 27/12/2025 20:59

DS (4) loves his playmobile, crayola spray gun and usbourne fairy tales book.

Wobble board. Its just a basic wooden board but my 10 year old loves it and she would have loved it at 4 as well.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 27/12/2025 21:38

Most of my DC’s big successes were the things they had asked for and most wanted, so for my girls (aged 7 and 13) that was Jellycats (both), various Care Bear things (youngest) and Victoria’s Secrets hits (oldest). For my DS (aged 17), it was Uniqlo tracksuit and a specific aftershave.

In terms of my ‘wildcard’ successes…
DD(7) - handheld microscope. I randomly bought this on Amazon prime day when it was heavily discounted and added it to her stocking. She didn’t really get what it was when she first opened it but once we charged it up and showed her she has rarely been without it…taking it on walks and looking at everything around the house! Football boots, big art pads and a lovely soft oodie also went down brilliantly.

DD(13) - she never gives me much scope for ‘surprises’ as her lists are always as long as my arm, but I got her a Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk set on a bit of a whim when it was on offer, and her delight and shock at receiving such a beautiful high-end item was unforgettable!

DS(17) - some picture wall lights went down well and a thermal travel cup. He’s only just discovered he likes tea so he’ll love taking it to college in the mornings and round the golf course on a cold day! Mainly he loved cash though 😊

Each sibling pair had a Discover Kit. I picked it because it had all the tools. It had plenty of bits for them.

RogueRascal · 28/12/2025 00:59

My 2yo DS is obsessed with his buzz lightyear action figure, he also got mr potato head and Woody. It's great, reliving my childhood haha!
