Would love to know what went down well for main gifts and stockings for difficult to buy for men - so I can jot down ideas for next time.

DH enjoyed posh olives in stocking, the nio cocktail in a packet I got him (he took it to my parents who don't really drinks and made himself a sneaky aperitif with it - you just pour into glass so it was easy to do in plain sight, and copy of Viz in stocking.

Hot sauce, thermal socks and whisky
I has a theme this year and everything was related to watching his favourite sports.

DP just likes being a bit of big kid if he doesn’t want anything in particular. More a silly present - but I got him a remote control car for £20 - so he can have some fun with the kids around the Christmas period. It makes a change from Lego!

DS did surprise stockings for everyone and dp's included:
a jar of chutney
a jar of mustard
a Pot Noodle
some ramen
some gardening gloves

He was absolutely thrilled.

We've given up buying things for each other, but he used to love getting local cheeses, local craft beers, anything food related. And books - lots of books.

Brought mine some nice cologne from John Lewis. Can't go wrong with some cologne I think.

Book voucher

Favourite brand of hand cream and candle

Posh wine

Golf balls.

Forgottenmyphone · 27/12/2025 14:55

Curry kit and expensive baseball cap!

heatdeath · 27/12/2025 15:10

Best received gifts for my male relatives:
Katto kitchen scissors (brother)
theatre voucher (dad)
garmin & airtags (dh)
ski gloves (BIL)
Carluccio hamper (nephew)
framed art prints (ds1)
pile of books (ds2)

Whisky, mezcal, wine, chocolate & liquorice always go down well though. And socks.

Rantypanties · 27/12/2025 15:24

Vinyl cleaning kit for his rapidly increasing vinyl collection! Other than that it’s normally stuff he needs like clothes…quite boring!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/12/2025 15:30

Woollen scarf for son in law, largely because he’d very recently lost his, and it was sunny but very 🥶 where we were staying.

BakeItTilIMakeIt · 27/12/2025 15:46

DH, late 30s:

  • Dualit hot chocolate maker (like Velvetiser but more reasonable £)
  • pistachio liqueur
  • Secret Hitler board game
  • his favourite shower gel / deodorant from L’Occitanr
  • spaghetti measurer
  • pizza cutter / whisk - joke presents as we lost ours ages ago and he moans every time he makes pancakes or pizza

Dad, late 70s:

  • a new overnight bag from John Lewis to replace his ratty old one
  • universal USB phone charger x 2
  • a wool jumper nicer than he’d buy himself
  • a Lego car

plus a big foam aeroplane thing for each of them and the kids, which they all had great fun flying in the park on Christmas Day!

My brother was chuffed with a voucher for a brewery tour and beer tasting at (Clarkson’s) Hawkstone brewery

Following with interest as DS2 is very hard to buy for and has a birthday this week as well!

murasaki · 27/12/2025 16:20

He watches a lot of Netflix etc on his phone, but has been propping it up on the table or holding it. So an adjustable stand with Bluetooth speaker went down well.
And a t shirt with a word cloud of his football team.

Brought mine some nice cologne from John Lewis. Can't go wrong with some cologne I think.

Sadly mine would look at me like I'd gone crackers if I bought him cologne. He's a farmer and totally disinterested in male grooming.

Vodkamartini3olives · 27/12/2025 17:06

Good old Clarins body wash. Buy it him every year.
A drone with built-in video camera. Not an expensive one but he loves it. My son's have now ordered the same for themselves so they can all go out together and use them.

ruralwanderer · 27/12/2025 17:20

Husband is thrilled with his thin Sealskinz gloves and has barely taken them off Christmas day 😁

He was also chuffed with a magnetic bowl which he'll use when working on the cars - no more lost bolts for him (hopefully!)

Makingpeace · 27/12/2025 17:22

A pickle in a pouch and a grow-your-own-venus fly trap.

Same. Well, mine isn’t a farmer, but he’d be more likely to try drinking cologne rather than wearing it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2025 17:30

Paul Smith socks and pants go down well here, but I only buy them at sale prices.

Anabellie · 27/12/2025 17:34

Highly recommend this company: seriouspig.co.uk/hamper-gifts-for-men/

SleafordSods · 27/12/2025 17:34

Not this year but I bought DH an Ancestry test a couple of years ago thinking he might be interested in looking into his family tree on those dark January nights and it worked.

SabrinaThwaite · 27/12/2025 17:39

Shipping forecast T shirt
Stovetop espresso maker
Locally made chilli sauces
Travel books
Beer

Went to boots look at cologne and it’s the one which I think has risen dramatically in price. Could get a nice bottom for £50 and now same bottle is £110

a battery powered screwdriver went down well with dad. It’s less cumbersome and more handy than the traditional sort of power screw driver / drill. But charged with a phone charger type lead not the massive lead and 3 point on charger.
