Lighthearted it is just a Sunday dinner says most .....Any confessions of your Christmas dinner / lunch. For example I wanted to serve at 3.30 after the Kings speech but we actually ate at 5 oops and or did you have enough food , too much or did you forget a dish ???

DH cooks Christmas dinner. He forgot to do the Yorkshire puddings. None of us noticed as there was so many other things on the table. We will have them tomorrow with the leftovers.

Low effort xmas dinner consisting of vegetarian thingy, supermarket roast potatoes, stuffing balls and brussels sprouts all served with gravy and cranberry sauce. Started prep at 2.15pm and we were eating at 3pm. All done in the oven on foil sheets so hardly any washing up.

Bloodyscarymary · 25/12/2025 23:20

I managed to overcook both the beef roast and the turkey despite using meat thermometers and taking them out when it said - so dry! Could see everyone struggling and was eventually like “you don’t have to pretend or finish this I know it’s dry!!!!!”

On the other hand my trifle was a success!

I’m usually a great cook but always seem to cock up christmas lunch!

Cooked cauliflower cheese but left it in the kitchen foiled up as had forgotten to serve it 🤦🏻‍♀️

So that's why my potatoes took so long! Will have to try and remember that - have half the jar of goose fat left for another roast for new year.

FusionChefGeoff · 25/12/2025 23:34

I don’t think it’s the goose fat it’s just because the oven is so stuffed full it’s no where near as efficient. I managed to trust the process as I scribble notes on last year’s timings and I’d told myself ‘roasties take forever - in at 1.30 in massive tray then pile into smaller one after 45 mins’

we ate about 10 mins late at 3.10. Carrots were banging (al dente in the steamer with parsley butter) but sprouts were grim. Meant to be maple
glazed pan fried but were watery and not caramelised at all.

I made a Christmas pudding and ice cream bombe, unfortunately I missed the step where I was supposed to line the bowl, so it was well and truly welded, it needed hacking out!

I reheated Delia's red cabbage that I made two nights ago in the microwave...and left it in there all day 😩 I wouldn't mind too much, but I did exactly the same thing last year!

First time ever of prepping and freezing veg , sausage meat stuffing and roast potatoes. Mashed potatoes and mashed swede in fridge.
Bought ready prepped pigs in blankets.
Meant to take red cabbage out of the freezer yesterday but forgot so just reheated in the microwave. It was lovely.
First time ever cooking for a vegetarian but worked out fine.
Cooked beef yesterday and got turkey in early today and it rested whilst oven was used for potatoes, carrots and parsnips.
Pressure cooked the brussel sprouts.
Dinner for 12 was on time and delicious. However I’ve cooked Christmas dinner every year for over 40 years so tbh I’m fine with it.
Looking forward to leftovers on Boxing Day and possibly beyond.
