Dgc2 had a christmas play about santa and elves fighting against companies making cheap presents.
I'm hearing not many schools do nativity plays now.
Did your dc or dgcs have a nativity?

It’s always the traditional story with a funny twist but still Mary, Joseph and the other usuals.

They should make some mention of the Christian nativity story. The whole point of the public holiday is that we are a Christian country and it’s a Christian festival. Children need to understand this as part of a rounded education for life in Britain.

Schools that eliminate the nativity story think they are being inclusive but actually they are robbing pupils of cultural capital. Bible stories unlock so much additional curricula context. Stories about woke elves might be cute and socially ‘right on’ but some fundamental understanding of Christianity will actually be more helpful in the longer term when they are studying history, citizenship, literature, RE etc.

I went to a Catholic school, quite a few years ago, and we played elves yet I also learned about Biblical stories during the entire rest of the year? What do you mean exactly when you say ‘woke elves’? How are elves woke all of a sudden they’ve literally been apart of Christmas (not to mention folklore which also apart of ‘British’ identity alongside the fact they basically are forced to work in Santa’s sweatshop which isn’t very politically correct) for many years now. Just saying I don't understand your point whatsoever.

Ours had pirates and cowboys and elves but they did let the P3s write it so...

(DD is in P3 next year and is already campaigning to be Mary in amongst some reindeer 🤣)

My children’s school do a nativity in reception and a Christmas play in year 3 the Christmas play isn’t usually about Jesus often about modern day Christmas but it’s up to the children to write it so if they wanted to do a nativity they could.
in year 1,2,4, 5 snd 6 they do a Christmas concert

I’m all for elves, woke or otherwise. I’m advocating for not losing the real significance of the Christian festival. Of course Catholic and CofE schools are going to be well blessed for teaching of bible stories, but obviously I’m not talking about them.

Over 3 Primary schools, and 2 children, I saw 6 different nativity plays.

Plus one play which was about a school putting on a nativity play

No nativity play here! Very multi-cultural school. They did a morning at the church where they each read out a bit of the nativity but no big event like other schools we have been at

Our DS was part of a traditional
nativity play. His school is far from diverse though so anything else would feel a bit weird.

His class has no children from ethnic minorities in it and I think there are only 2 non white children in the entire school so they very much follow a traditional route where celebrations are concerned.

Is that you Nige?

YR to Y2 in our school do a nativity with a different twist each year. This year was Bethlehem Bake Off.
Y3 and Y4 do a non-nativity Christmas play, then Y5 and Y6 do an end of year summer play.
All very lovely and wholesome
