7 Year old found Santa’s cute wrapping paper - how to explain tomorrow…

Help! I’d carefully kept wrapping paper separate from the main stash for the Santa gifts. I wrap two DDs in one style of paper each to distinguish them, and chose a cute kawaii style design for my youngest. Stupidly left a roll of it out last night when doing some last minute wrapping and she noticed it this morning and picked it up and commented how cute it was. How do I explain that her Santa presents have the same wrapping paper tomorrow? She’s very observant so will definitely ask!

The entire premise of Santa is based on him knowing what you like and how you’re behaved. He must’ve heard her say how cute it was and wrapped her presents in it. How thoughtful, but also obviously what Santa would do.

That’s basically how my eldest finalised believing in Father Christmas, I found out years later

She is a smart girl. Don’t insult her intelligence by lying to her.

As a child I always thought Father Christmas got my parents to wrap all the presents for him, and that's why the labels were all in my mum's handwriting?

This is what I thought. That Santa delivered the presents, unwrapped. Mum and Dad then had to check that he had given us the right ones and not mixed them up our neighbours (3 girls in each house). Once checked, Mum and Dad had to wrap them up.

I have said that I send wrapping paper to Santa cause he’s running low

TheLittleGreenFairy · 24/12/2025 22:54

I'd be just as surprised as her when she points it out and say that it's crazy, Marks and Spencer were advertising it as the same type of wrapping paper that Santa is using in 2025 but you didn't realise it was really true!

I would just re-wrap them with different paper.

This.

My mum would always tell us santas cheeky he used her wrapping paper

Agreed. The best way forward is not to choose some specific, convoluted deceit - it is to act your heart out.

Eg "wow that's the same wrapping paper as I just bought!", "do I have the same wrapping paper that Santa uses?!", run and check the wrapping paper in wonder etc etc

Then talk about whether Santa has been to the shop, or the people supplying the shop have been to the North pole. Did Santa use some of your wrapping paper this year? Why? Invite them into the mystery.

Added bonus, well past the time your child has realised on some level that Santa isn't real, they can still choose to play along with this sort of thing. It's like make believe together.

No use for this year but my 2 picked paper to send off with the bloody elf! Easy elf on the shelf and they know what paper Santa has!

bumphope2020 · 24/12/2025 23:33

@kickingk16 make sure a non Santa gift is wrapped in the paper, otherwise it’s odd you and Santa have the same paper but you haven't used it !

AlwaysADramaHadEnough · 25/12/2025 00:03

I would re wrap.
I always use a really funky muli colored one for stockings from santa. . I wrap it all dh does mine. We dispose of the rest of the roll so no way of them finding it. Generally there's less than 1m left so I bin it. If there's loads I put on local page as people seem to take anything that's free.

LeonMccogh · 25/12/2025 00:08

If she’s smart enough to be suspicious off the back of that, she’s old enough to tell.

Silvertulips · 25/12/2025 00:14

I wouldn't go with some convoluted lie

LOL best comment on here!
