DH is at work until lunch time - I’m at home.

We are at my parents for Xmas day but hosting Boxing Day for ILs this year.

This morning I have:

  • moved furniture around in dining area so everyone will fit and set the Christmas table (won’t be using it now until Boxing Day)
  • unloaded £325 of shopping from my Sainsbury’s delivery
  • Made a shepherd’s pie to eat for dinner tomorrow night
  • Made and frozen a chicken liver pate and whipped feta dip (sounds like they won’t freeze but my brother, a professional chef, assures me he has done both before with no issue)
  • Made and frozen some fancy olive bread
  • Sliced and frozen some French sticks

All the stuff I have frozen can come out Xmas day morning for some relatively fuss free hosting of Boxing Day (that’s the idea!). Realised I haven’t got a ham though so will be off to the shops later to get one

Made rice porridge for our Christmas breakfast, made caramelised red onion chutney to go with all the cheeses, did a last quick vacuum (did a proper vacuum and mop yesterday), found the last of the presents I couldn't find yesterday and stuck them on OH's office chair for him to wrap, dropped presents round at my brother's, went to the shop to buy pizzas for our dinner tonight and that is everything.

Once DS is in bed I'll put the presents under the tree.

Collected turkey and mashed garlic into butter to make the garlic bread after I’ve had this cup of tea.

I wonder how many of these responses are from men...

I have managed to do some dishes and empty the kitchen bin. A flare up of fibro has put paid to anything else so am back.in bed exhausted. Thankfully all food is bought and presents wrapped. Cleaning isn't likely to get done.

Dh doesn’t have time to arse about on his phone 😂
We went for a little spa for a couple of hours early this morning and he’s been all systems go since we got back, making stock, making pastry and then the mince pies, he’s been to the supermarket, wrapped some presents and is now making the sauce for sticky toffee pudding! After that he’s cleaning out the chickens and prepping tonight’s dinner.
He’s been far busier than me (although I’ve also been doing things).
Today I’ve made the chocolate torte, made the pastry and sorted out the sausagemeat for sausage rolls, made millionaire shortbread and wrapped some presents, just about to head to the shops for some presents I forgot 😂

We hosted Christmas yesterday. So am doing some tidying up. Have found someones car key during clean up though..... As they all left yesterday (and that brand of car wasn't on my drive)- presuming it's a spare....

I've collected the butcher order, met an old friend of my dad's to collect his old cine films (!), tidied up/moved various bags around to try to figure out how much needs ramming into the car, checked work emails, packed to visit my parents, started bagging up non-chilled/frozen food to take with us, currently partially roasting the spuds and parsnips according to Mary Berry's instructions to minimise oven time at my mum's.

About to go and check the shitty ancient car to try and minimise the chances of a festive breakdown of the motoring variety. Not terribly hopeful but want to feel I've done all I can!

Backache today so I'm about to do some stretches too so I'm less stiff for a long drive tomorrow.

Got up at 2:30am to travel with family to mother-in-laws house abroad and then had a nap.

And that's about all I have to do now for Christmas. Presents are wrapped. Catering is in the hands of DH's large extended family. DD will be entertained by her many cousins. All I'll be doing is washing a few dishes now and then and catching up with family.

Going to be bliss!

Made ginger cookies and finger food for 2 family occasions we are attending.

Got sitting room ready yesterday.

1 present left to wrap (came today)

DS’s presents are now wrapped. After a fashion. The sellotape did not want to stick to the paper. So they will probably all unwrap themselves between now and Christmas morning. Thankfully he’s an adult so it’s not a major drama. Just annoying.

About to hang up washing and change the bed.

I've had a very productive day.
Went to Aldi early for all the veg and fresh bits for xmas dinner and then buffet as hosting on 27th.

Cleaned bathrooms, polished and hoovered everywhere.

Defrosted the gammon to boil and glaze in morning wrote a list of things to remember to take to dsis tomorrow 😂

Made a millionaire cheesecake with the kids.

would have liked to have got the last bit of ironing done. Might do that later or might ignore it!

No prep today. Had my six year old grandson over while his mum has been delivering presents to in-law's family. She's under pressure as their toddler has been very ill for several weeks and she's tired out, bless her.

My grandson and I played Christmas snap, he made a Christmas tableau in his bedroom here with lovely bits from Sostrene Grene and other decorations, played hide and seek, made up some Christmas fairy tales, helped him make a toy story Forky from lolly sticks, googly eyes and glitter glue and he decorated a felt Christmas tree with stick on decorations.

Lunch was gammon which I cooked yesterday - very nice, if I do say so myself - part boiled and part baked with black treacle and orange glaze.

She popped in with the baby to pick him up and we had a lovely hour together.

They've gone home now, so I'll be having a nice quiet afternoon reading and watching tv. All presents wrapped, food shopping done and house tidy. Out tomorrow to our nearest city where my husband volunteers at the Cathedral, I'll just have a wander round the shops, hopefully not buying anything!

Out to our daughter's Christmas day and no hosting for us as only a very small number of our family left sadly. I prefer the run up to Christmas rather than Christmas itself, although obviously love giving the grandchildren their presents and seeing them playing on the day itself.

I lit a candle to my mum at the Cathedral last week, (it's her birthday Christmas day) and had a glass of sherry while cooking the ham yesterday (my dad ran a lovely grocers back in the day and we barely saw him before Christmas as he was down the shop many nights cooking many hams and drinking South African sherry!) They would be so happy to see me with my beautiful grandsons - they're a joy.

You sound like such a wonderful person. I hope you have a lovely Christmas
