Felt a fool posting Christmas cards

AndreaMarvell · 19/12/2025 09:15

After a message from a friend yesterday about the last posting for cards I got my backside in gear last night. This morning found me at the postbox at 8.55 in Grinch pyjamas and silver shoes with Medusa hair stuffing them in before the postie turned up at 9. Thank goodness there was nobody else around and I dived in my car faster than someone jumping in a bobsleigh in the Winter Olympics.

I feel like a disorganised Scroogey Grinch because I've been so busy. Had a massive work deadline - 2pm today.

I'm guessing they're the first pair the OP found.

Ha ha that's right, I went out in them last night, they were by the door. I was writing the cards out at 2am when I got home.

I haven’t sent any cards for at least 10 years 😬, so you’re more organised than me!

Same…actually can’t remember the last time I sent Christmas cards!

I’m not a grinch though, I bloody love Christmas, I just dislike the card aspect. I buy nice presents! 😍🎄🎁

Glitchymn1 · 19/12/2025 10:33

🤣🤣I miss that laughing emoji lol

You should’ve done what I did and posted them last night, under the cover of darkness lol

Well I can beat that. For several years I gave a card addressed to a neighbour called Michael only to find out he was called Trevor....

😂😂 Maybe I should just put Trevor in the card

Well done OP! I only sent 3 Christmas cards this year! I used to send out loads. Since the price of the stamp is nearly a quid, I get less cards and I only reply to cards I get!

I’m just about to do my handposted ones to local friends and neighbours. But I don’t know how to spell one neighbour’s name. He gave me a card from him with his nickname in, but I’ve never called him or known him by that name. So would feel silly using it but also silly that I don’t know how to spell his full name. What do I do 😂

Just write “Merry Christmas, From Parsley and family” and don’t bother with the “To” bit

I cut my list down every year 😆 this year I wrote no more than 15, only 3 needed stamps.

twilightcafe · 19/12/2025 10:45

I send one to my mum. And that's it.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 19/12/2025 10:48

I get mine out by the second week in Dec. I know people say they don't bother but tbh, a box of decent charity cards is cheap as chips and I only send to a handful of people anyway, so postage is not an issue. Put a reminder in your phone for next year, OP.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 19/12/2025 10:49

I remember having to gallop to the post office to send my oldest friend 60th birthday card. I’ve known her half a century so it’s not as if I couldn’t have planned it better.

mondaytosunday · 19/12/2025 10:53

I’m heading to the PO today to get last things off. But 8.55 and you’re not dressed? If you said 6.55 I’d forgive you (our collection is ridiculously early).

And just leave the envelope blank? 🤔

oustedbymymate · 19/12/2025 11:02

@AndreaMarvell that was me yesterday. 🥴 not positing cards again bloody £20 for 12 stamps!!!!

OlympicWomen · 19/12/2025 11:05

Parsleyforme · 19/12/2025 10:56

Try to make the writing indistinct.

And just leave the envelope blank? 🤔

Just write "to all at No 76"

Blingismything · 19/12/2025 11:24

Posted two and written five in total.

HouseAshamed · 19/12/2025 11:25

I haven't bought the presents that need to be posted yet.

Mulledjuice · 19/12/2025 11:28

Blackcountryexile · 19/12/2025 09:21

If I was a recipient of one of your cards I'd be touched that you'd made so much effort..

Ditto

redskydelight · 19/12/2025 11:32

I'd suggest thinking about why Christmas cards are so important that writing them at 2am (i.e you won't have put a lot of thought into messages) and rushing out to post them in your pyjamas is necessary.

You might realise that actually no one cares (or possibly one or two elderly aunts care as per a PP) and that you are putting stress on yourself for no reason.

DinoLil · 19/12/2025 11:52

This is the first year I've not posted any and, funnily enough, the first year I've not received any through the mail. I think I must not be the only one looking at the cost of a stamp and thinking HOW MUCH?!

But thank you for making me laugh @AndreaMarvellwith your excellent description. I can picture you perfectly!

Daygloboo · 19/12/2025 12:05

Lovelyview · 19/12/2025 09:19

I didn't send any this year. Bah humbug.

Oh you wicked scrooge

SilverPink · 19/12/2025 14:03

Parsleyforme · 19/12/2025 10:56

And just leave the envelope blank? 🤔

Well yes. It’s a neighbour so not like it needs an address writing.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 19/12/2025 15:01

If it makes you feel any better I missed the 2nd class cut off, bought 1st class stamps and cards last year, failed to send them then, and this year again. I keep telling myself I need to put together some sort of newsletter to include in them because of the cost of stamps now.

Kudos on the dedication!

My mum was caught out with the large letter postage of some of her cards she said the postage was more expensive than the cards

Postage is far more than the price of
cards - my cards were 50 for £2, which was a good job considering the price of stamps. One year I will get them done in time for second class postage.’

caringcarer · 20/12/2025 00:36

Iv posted MiL a nice one because she loves a nice card. I met up with my sisters last week and handed them one in person. I don't post any other cards except a few small ones to a few neighbours. DH posts them through their letterbox whilst walking the dogs.
