Ours would be a seafood platter or paella. With lobster, loads of shells on prawns, calamari, mussels, and whatever other shellfish I haven't listed. Served with champagne and some bread and aioli.

Are Chinese takeaways usually open on Xmas day? I've never even thought to look.

Beef wellington

BellRock1234 · 17/12/2025 19:19

Cheese fondue. With broccoli and pigs in blankets 😋 .

landlordhell · 17/12/2025 19:19

One of those big seafood feasts served with a bottle of champagne.

TartanMammy · 17/12/2025 19:23

Were having a Chinese takeaway, with all the sides and fancy extra bits. We did it last year too 👌. No prep, hardly any dishes, plenty of leftovers. Perfect!

We've also done a Mexican feast before, fajitas, enchiladas, nachos, quesadillas, tortillas dips etc.

This post is making me want to scrap our traditional Christmas lunch!

I think steak, chips, mushrooms, onion rings, baked vine tomatoes and peppercorn sauce would be amazing as it takes a fraction of the time to cook.

Flidina · 17/12/2025 19:25

We usually have a takeaway curry on Christmas day , ordered the night before and then reheated, but this year we're doing a traditional roast dinner for a change, next year we will be away for Christmas and I won't have to cook.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 17/12/2025 19:26

Oh I’d love a curry!
followed by a Sicilian lemon and white chocolate roulade please

This would be mine too!

Dd is not home this year so I am sorely tempted to bin any idea of cooking and go to the Xmas market for a hot dog, or some tartiflette. Followed by a long nap in front of the TV and maybe cheese later on.

Open on Christmas Day? France?

gogomomo2 · 17/12/2025 19:35

I live Christmas dinner but would like goose rather than turkey (others don’t like it)

myrtleWilson · 17/12/2025 20:32

My daughter had anorexia and whilst now recovered (hurray - public service announcement - eating disorders have the hightest rate of mortality than any other mental health condition - please do tell your MP to campaign for more investment in early treatment!) she still doesn't like a traditional Sunday lunch nor a Christmas dinner.

We still go all out and home cook but tend to have a country/regional theme - so last couple of years have seen chinese on Christmas Day and then Indian on Boxing Day,

Last year was Italian so we did homemade focaccia, tagliata, caponata, aubergine parmigiana etc

This year is Middle Eastern so we doing homemade lamb neck on hummus, Meliz Berg's chicken kebab, toum, sambousek, fattoush and another salad and flat breads

CandyCaneKisses · 17/12/2025 20:42

I had no idea you could have takeaways on Christmas Day. Ours are closed.

This reminds me of one Christmas we did as early 20 year olds. It was my friends birthday on Christmas Day and he HATED it because it was always about Christmas and never about his birthday. So we threw him a Mexican birthday party and banned anything Christmassy. Was great fun!

Omg i literally came on here to say this. Posh shellfish. Get in my belly.

Chatterboxy · 17/12/2025 22:28

I’d be very happy with some salad leaves, smoked salmon, juicy king prawns & lashings of truffle mayonnaise, washed down with an ice cold Sauvignon!

I was going to say a big bowl of mac and cheese, with a side of pigs in blankets and another side of buffalo chicken wings.
but actually yours sounds better

I like the sound of your idea too! I'll do mine, you do yours and we can share 🙊
